I bought a 2016 Tundra about eight months ago, and I have yet to get the bluetooth working for more than a couple of weeks straight. I am on my fourth radio now, and my dealer just ordered me a fifth one. Typically, after they install a new one, it will work sporadically for maybe several weeks, or maybe only a few days, but eventually it stops connecting with my phone. I think every service employee has worked with me on this problem since the truck was brand new, and sometimes they can delete my phone and reinstall it, which gives me a temporary fix. But eventually that stops working, and they must order me a new radio.

This problem is SO FRUSTRATING. I have always wanted a Tundra, and finally got to a point in my life where I can afford a vehicle that cost me over 50 g's. And although I love virtually every other aspect of the truck, this nagging problem with the radio has completely ruined the whole experience.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with their 2016 Tundra, and if so, how did you solve it? My phone is an Android by the way, in case anyone wants to know. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

A little of this and a little of that.
Wow brother!! Sorry about your tunes! That blows!! I have a '16 Tundra (bought last November) and have had any bluetooth issues that you speak of. I have an iPhone though, maybe you should upgrade your device to an iPhone and see what happens??

Not to hijack the OP, but I have had weird issues with my radio as well. I recently bought a '15 CM (with only 8k miles). BT seems to work, but the radio sporadically will not respond to driver input (head unit or steering wheel controls) and then will shut itself off. It restarts automatically, but similarly to the OP - it is really frustrating. Time to take it to the dealer? Hopefully a new unit will solve the issue.

Wow, so they just keep changing the head unit, over and over again? I doubt you can get 4 bad head units in a row. Maybe it's time to try something new. Have you tried another phone?

To be honest the factory radio is the first thing to be replaced when I buy a truck.. they all suck no matter who makes them. Aftermarket or go silent.

I have a 16 and have never had an issue, I would seriously look into the settings or apps running in the back ground on your phone, it may be time to upgrade your device.

BTW I use an iPhone never any issues

What android do you have? When I first got my truck I had a Galaxy SIII. It always connected, but the text messages would only show up very randomly. I upgraded to a Galaxy S5 and now everything works great. After 4 head units all doing the same thing I would suspect like others that it's not the head unit, but more than likely your phone.

no problems with my 14 non JBL and iPhone 6. Could the problem possibly be the phone? I mean the likely hood of going through 6 head units and having the same problem with everyone seems very very unlikely.

well thats not true about having no problems... I do have one issue and that is that apple adds new music to iTunes in each OS update so the next thing i know i'm driving down the road unwillingly listening to Dave Matthews and i have to decide if i should throw my phone out the window or drive into a tree.

Had the galaxy note, and did noticed sporadic disconnect in maxima. Since I got iPhone, no issues.

Make sure your phone Bluetooth settings are aligned and correct, and turn off any other enabled Bluetooth devices

Try a 30 day sign up on a iPhone. If it repeat, then return iphone

I had issues with my 2014 with JBL Entune radio. It would power cycle-turn off and then restart. Sometimes it would freeze up to where I would have to park, turn off and then restart the truck. It would also forget my Treble/Mid/Bass settings, yet all BT settings and radio station presets were saved? Took it in last night 4/13/17 and dealer said it was one day until the warranty and they updated the SW. Hope this is the fix? Time shall tell. Also had them removed my seat belt chimes and extend my puddle/entry lights to 30 sec. of course they had to charge for that! oh well, hope things are fixed. 5 replacement radios seems a bit much to be a radio issue. Some phones just don't like to pair. Compatibility or SW or what ever they just have issues.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I am glad to hear that so many of you are not having the issues that I am. And I agree that after replacing so many radios, it would seem likely that it is my phone. However, the reason I held off on changing phones is because my dealer said that there are others that are experiencing the same problems that I am. But now that I think of it, maybe they have Droids too.

I have an android phone, galaxy s7edge to be exact & paired with my 14 platinum. Never had issues even turning the bluetooth on & off every now & then when i get sick of hearing my emails & text coming through. Im guessing it would have to do with the phone settings itself & not so much of the brand phones or the actual head units.

I have noticed that every Android update my phone gets, the truck Bluetooth loses the phone. I have to re-pair ,everytime. Pixel XL.

My friend owns a Gen 2 and his Android always had issues. Switched to an iphone and it instantly played well in the sandbox.

@MT_Crewmax this is very common. The first step is for the dealer to flash a new firmware. In some cases, like mine, that wouldn't work so the entire head unit was switched out. Has been 100% ever since and they don't even have to pull the entire dash apart. If you're still on warantee you're good to go. If not ask them to replace it with a factory refurbished head for about $1200. It's a lot cheaper than almost $5000 and comes with a warantee.

If you go into your phone carrier - those with a contract, they have a 15 day trial period. Don't like it, take it back, money back.

Keep it beyond the trial period then it's yours.

Mine has never worked perfectly. It'll work for a few days, then bam... it's like it forgot how to bluetooth. Constantly prompts my phone to pair.. um, it was. I click "pair" and it doesn't.

Now the screen is busted too... I have an extended service warranty so I'm hoping I can get it replaced.

2017 and iPhone 6s Plus here, and mine always stays connected to Bluetooth, but when I am in my truck, my phone doesn't ding for text messages even though my phone volume is turned all the way up. Additionally, sometimes I will hand my son my phone to watch YouTube kids while we are driving. The sound will not play out of my phone unless I disconnect it from the truck Bluetooth. If I select my phone as the audio source, it will play it thru the truck speakers, but I don't wanna listen to the Lego Batman movie. :D So how do I make sound come out of my phone when it is connected to BT? o_O

Edit: I know how to switch between my phone and the Bluetooth during a call, but I want sound to come out of my phone for all the other stuff.
