I told the wife this morning. My next "mod" is a polisher machine. I work out with weights and don't want extra work hah

Bare in mind this is my first full time with a full blown wax for a vehicle and I appreciate the guys that were patient with me, and didnt make any comments as to why Sean is being a dumb-ass today.

With that being said, I wanted to thank the guys that guided a n00b (yours truly) to vehicle detailing. Special thank you to the guys that took time from their Fathers Day Sunday @1UPPER @WarEagleSteve

I washed my vehicle the day before to include windows, tires, interior, etc in effort to free up additional time on Fathers Day. I promptly parked it back into the garage promptly after the wash to keep it clean.

I woke up bright and early on Sunday and began the clay-bar process. This was probably the "funnest" part of it. I enjoyed literally feeling the glass touch difference on the paint as I worked my way around the truck. So much so, I dragged the wife out from her office to come and feel the paint, haha.

I ordered Meguiars Clay-bar kit that included one (1) 16oz. Quick Detailer (not enough- at least if this is your first clay-bar process- you'll want to go out and purchase a second bottle or leave mid process like I did to get one!) two (2) 80gram clay-bars, and a 16 x 25 microfiber towel.

The first clay-bar, while it lasted around 1/2 to 3/4 of the truck was able to gather quite a bit of paint contaminants off of the truck, and it was interesting, but relieving to see how much it is able to collect. The second bar collected around the same amount of contaminants.

The hardest part of this process was getting my short ass to get to the roof of the truck and gently work the bars on it leaving a smooth glass like feel.

When the clay-bar process was completed, I followed @WarEagleSteve recommendation and used the Meguiars rubbing compound on a buffing pad by hand. This by far was the most time consuming part as I was ensuring it was close to perfect as I could get it while watching some of those orange rail dust marks come off of the paint. I would apply this to one area of the truck at a time and quickly buff it out with a microfiber cloth as you should not wait for it to dry per instructions.

Once this arduous process was complete, came the easy process. Once again, recommended by @WarEagleSteve I used the liquid wax on an applicator. With this wax, you need to let it dry before buffing out. I believe mine had aged some as it smelt raunchy!

    All done!:bananadance:

What I learned from this process is:
    - I need to invest in a buffing machine.
    - You need to be attentive to detail and remember this is your truck so the extra effort is worth it. I plan to do this process twice a year with a quick wax on/off in between (any suggestions?)

Yes... in a outward circular motion. Use right arm to wax on and use left arm to wax off. :D

Your truck looks great after you detailed it. Have you ever used rain X on your windows? Rain X is amazing stuff! When it's freshly applied you don't even need to use your wipers with heavy rain.

You need to try it! Clean your windshield first then apply RainX after. It's applied with a micro fiber towel in a circular motion. Let it dry then wipe it off with a new clean micro fiber towel. Your glass will have a ultra slick wax like coating on it. Water beads up instead of making it hard to see.
    IMG_8247.jpg

Also look into bleche-wite to clean your tires. You spray bleach white on your tires and scrub with a stiff bristle brush. Wash off the excess with water hose and it will remove all the crap from your tires. Makes tires look brand new. Then I like to spray a tire spray on. Just make sure you let the tire spray set before you drive off. Otherwise it can fling that stuff on your clean truck. IMG_8248.jpg

Doesn't rain much in CO, but used it a ton when I lived in FL.

It's the water that falls from the sky... which allows me to only wash my truck twice a year. :p

Personally, I'm a Griot's Garage guy. Love his products. In between waxes, I use his Speed Shine with a microfiber cloth. He also has a Spray Car Wash that works great!
He also offers how-to videos on his website for the detail challenged such as yourself Sean!

Good job man, turned out great. :hattip:

A big +1 on a dual action polisher. It will take your results to the next level and save the elbows and shoulders.

The only suggestion I have would is check into a paint sealant for the next go round maybe (or when your out of wax). Just as easy to apply and will last a good 4 to 6 months compared to 4 to 6 weeks that wax typically lasts. I have had great luck with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant. But there are tons of other great options out there.

Sorry @driverdog I swore I had tagged you in this post. It must been inadvertently deleted when editing this post.

If I had to do it all over again, I would still-
    Claybar
    -- which wax/compound?
    --followed by some sealant?

    Would that be correct?

I think I'm just confused due to the many different waxes out there.

Why can't it be easy lol. Something like for a full exterior detail wash/wax:

    Wash
    Claybar
    Wash
    Insert wax name
    Apply sealant wax
    Done

Hey Sean, here's something new you might want to take for a test spin!!

    - a thumb.jpg
The instructions state that you add this product to a bucket of water. Wet a microfiber cloth, wipe down your vehicle, then dry immediately. Might cut down your car care time?

My foam cannon adapter is coming in today. Hopefully it fits. Maybe I'll actually wash my truck now.
