Between cleaning the house, the deck, and the vehicles, I figure it’s time to break down and buy a pressure washer. Any recommendations? Am trying to stay under/around $500 or so.

I've been looking also. I had an old Craftsman that gave up the ghost a couple of years ago.

I like the convince of electric, and if you are just using this around your home it should be easy to run an extension cord. I have owned a Sun Joe (2k psi max) for like 6 years, and its been good but I do wish it had more power at times. I've linked one that is over 3k psi that is within your budget. A pressure washer is definitely handy to have.

Been really happy with my Ryobi. It’s the 3300psi with the idle down feature and a Honda engine. Absolutely no complaints. We have the driveway attachment which works incredibly well. Like taking a 12” eraser to your pavement. I also bought a cheap foam cannon off Amazon for washing the vehicles. $449 @ HD.

I use mineral oil for storage.
Drain left over gas, run it until it dies.
Lean it back and put a couple cap fulls of mineral oil in the hose connection. A couple tugs on the starter rope until the oil comes out the pressure side.

If you're going to be using for heavy duty stuff around the house, try to get a Honda engine and a Cat pump. The pump is usually the weak link, get the best one you can. Honda engines are nice, they are pretty quiet.

If you are doing light duty stuff, a harbor freight washer is probably all you need.

I bought a Ryobi, a small one from Home Depot on sale a few years back for less than $100.00 delivered. Light duty but that keeps the wife from blowing holes in things like her feet.

Many of these smaller units use the same wand which has a bad weak spot where the high pressure hose connects. I caught my wife holding on to the wand to thy to pull the stuck hose and it breaks the plastic on the handle. So if you get this type, support the hose with one hand and pull the hose, not the handle. My mother did the same thing with her Karcher.

I had the Ryobi. Mine had idle and high pressure delivery issues, but I didn't go through it and try to fix it. For how cheap they are I just ran it. It was replaced by this, which to me, is a superior unit: https://m.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200818033_200818033 Northern Tool seems to always carry quality stuff and this is their #1 recommended unit.

I have two. A large, loud craftsman one that is almost 4K psi… which I never use, because it’s a bear to move and fuel and blah blah.

my go to is the $89 1800psi electric ryobi one. I use it for everything. Works great with my foam cannon too. I’m sure I lost a little psi as I run a 50’ hose vs the 25’ it came with.
It’s quiet, turns off when you are spraying and uses no fuel to worry about storing.

That may be the same one I have. It's very handy and easy to get out and put away.

I got an older version of this one a few years ago and it has been very useful and reliable.

GPM trumps PSI. simpson makes solid consumer washers. The Honda 3.5gpm model is solid. (They label dewalts)

Get a cheap car wash foamer, tubing to match foamer inlet and 5 gal bucket. Pool store liquid chlorine (10-12.5%)
    Gain laundry detergent.

cut chlorine 2parts chlorine to one water. Drop hose in mix bucket. Soak area, dwell 8-10 minutes. Rinse. Pressure is for concrete or stripping house to paint. 7415A67A-D707-4C6F-AAF2-4DAE552C2DE1.jpgor get a set up like I have. Honda 690 3000psi but 8gpm

^^^. What he said. ^^^ I used to work at Cat Pumps as a test tech. We did comparisons against all other pump configurations. For longevity and trouble free operation you can’t beat it. One drawback is the price, but you would only need to buy one if properly winterized for storage.
