I previously owned a Jeep Wrangler and one of the pieces of equipment that has been incredibly useful long after selling the Jeep was my 10lb CO2 PowerTank. The ability to run air tools, reseat tires, and just general inflation needs, without any wiring necessary is very convenient and fast. This tank has saved me and others on more occasions than I can keep track of.

When I got my Tundra, I knew one of my first projects needed to be a proper mounting solution for the PowerTank. After weighing all the options, I decided on bed mounting it. PowerTank makes an angled bracket for this but I felt it was a little expensive and more complex than what I needed, so I had a talented friend fabricate me a mount out of steel for much cheaper. The inspiration for this custom bracket came from an article written by TRUCK TREND back in 2011.

Below are photos of the custom bracket, hole locations, and the final mounting solution. A small spacer was used to create a sort of 'leg' under the front left area of the mount to stabilize the unit (exactly where it's located in photos). It's comprised simply of washers stacked to the correct height I needed and wrapped in electrical tape. The hole size drilled in both the mount and the bed was 3/8" and all stainless steel hardware was used. The mount is thru bolted and fender washers were used underneath.

I am very happy with the way it turned out and will report back any long term issues and my experiences with this air setup. Feel free to ask any questions you have and I’ll do my best to answer. Enjoy!

Nice. How do you refill a CO2 tank? Welding supply?

Very nice setup!! Met the power tank folks! Great people! Their 1st gen runner is one of the sickest build I’ve seen.

Thanks! It was a fun project and one I hadn't really seen posted yet. Also check Craigslist for used PowerTanks, I see them posted from time to time. That's how I got mine, think I paid around $200

    Nice write up.

    I prefer a CO2 tank as well.

I purchased my CO2 tank almost new, with regulator and hose for 225.00. Hell, there was just one posted for sale on another Offroad forum I visit.

These are bad ass tanks.. paired with their monster valves I seen em fill a tire from 8-30 really fast. I want to say under 10seconds each tire. I really like the fittings and regulators they use as well.
I’ll give them a call tomorrow and see what I can do for us..

Nice work! How many times can you air up on one tank?

Heres the chart from PowerTank. PT10 is the tank size then just cross reference your tire size and amount of increase in PSI to show how many tires it will fill up, then divide by 4, giving you the number of complete four tire air-ups. Hope that helps.

Pretty cool. I bet it would make a good fire extinguisher in a pinch.
