Looking to put a single compact sub under the passenger rear seat in my 2018 double cab. I have the storage bins so I'd have to remove that side.

I'm seeing some affordable 8" enclosures on crutchfield. I emailed tech12volts and haven't heard back...just looking for input, opinions.

For $300 I can get https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20611HS8/Kicker-11HS8.html?tp=114 or https://www.crutchfield.com/p_105DRA8/JVC-CW-DRA8.html?tp=114. The Kicker seems to have a bigger range on the low end...but the JVC looks like a bit more power. I don't know much about this stuff...but both are 8" with similar amps and enclosure sizes. Also, the JVC has a little more to make the install super easy, Kicker may need some wires.

I like the $30 price range, but I know the JLW3 box for $500 is pretty killer, but maybe overkill for my needs.

Not looking to show off at stop lights, just want to enjoy music while I drive. Bass for me not for thee.

    Alot of them
I would choose the Kicker over JVC.

I just put the Sony 8” powered sub from tech12volts in my 2021 DC and it fit behind the seats. No modifications to the storage bin, jack is in its normal place and seats operate normally.
Cost was right around $300 for the sub, harnesses to plug into the stock amp without cutting any wires and LOC.

I was just looking for an improvement for the stock non-jbl system for now. It’s a single 8”, not 2 12’s so my expectations were low but I don’t regret purchasing it.

Thanks but after wiring I'm basically at $500 - shouldn't I just get the ready to go powered JLW3 box at that point? https://www.crutchfield.com/S-MWu0RtPW5SC/p_13693330/JL-Audio-ACP108LG-W3v3.html - Also I really like the little remotes those compact subs offer so I can tweak it from the front seat.

Would the Kicker really be a dud? Maybe your expectations were higher than mine? Do you have the link to the one you tossed? I'm in it $200-250 more with your option. Not doubting it's superior...but I wish I could hear the diff. 150 watts vs 400 watts is a lot but again, maybe 400 is overkill for my needs.

Wow behind the seat! Didn't think that was possible as the seat backs really push up against the cab when you lift the seat bottoms. Pretty cool...what's the output on the sony? got a link?

I didn’t love the idea of putting it under the front seat or losing storage space. It’s squeezed in there pretty good and doesn’t move. I put it upside down and shimmed it up so the wires would come out on the right side and not get squished by the seat belt cover.

I was a little intimidated since I’ve never installed audio stuff before but James @Tech12volts was very helpful answering emails with the many questions I had. The only additional stuff I bought was an inline fuse to put by the battery and some wire shrink wrap. Going to carpet the wood under it so it looks a little better even though you can’t really see it.

I went with Pioneer 10” factory box in the cargo box and amp. Swapped out door speakers to Alpine and Alpine amp under passenger side seat. Bought all the gear and install at my local Best Buy. Thumps enough for me

It was on the Pioneer website. Than I did a dealer search and my local Best Buy had it so I bought all items there.

    Wheels,Grill,

I used this same setup EXCEPT I put mine behind the rear passenger seat, YES it will fit. I have full function and access to everything and
    it sounds pretty good.

    Rough Country Level,
Haven't built this box yet, but going to be the end of the summer. I've got a 10TW3-D4 and I'm planning on using 3/4 MDF and outer dimensions are going to be 5.24 X 12 X 23 and I'm going to drop it into the drivers side storage compartment. Should get the job done with a solid 500wrms from a JL500 series mounted on rear wall going to it, and stays completely factory and leaves me some storage room still.

I went with a Kicker 47TRTP102 loaded enclosure and a Rockford Fosgate Prime 750x1 for my bass needs. This was my first step into car audio (was buying lockers and gears in high school instead of subs and amps) and I think for most people that want to add some kick this is a great option. A Rockford Prime 500x1 would be a great pairing for this sub enclosure, but I went bigger in case I wanted to upgrade my sub setup (which I did).

I will try to take a few pics this week sometime. The sound is well enough for me, and really isn't too bad. It "fills" in the lows enough to wiggle the rear view- Only way I know
how to explain it. You would think it would muffle the sound but I figured it was worth a shot, It's completely out of my way and worth it to me.

the kicker sub does a decent job of adding in bass and filling out the sound…much cleaner and better sounding than the crappy 8” JBL sub that comes with the “upgraded” jbl factory Toyota system. I ran a single one in my wrx for years under the front passenger seat, and it sounded very clean and well rounded. I have two in my Infiniti g35 coupe as the stereo already had a bose system that was clean enough without doing a complete redo of the stereo but needed more low end. If you’re trying to have low sustained punch for rap/hip/hop, it won’t impress you. For rock and other music, it’ll sound the way a nice factory system should. I run a single 10” JL Audio W3 (generic JL sealed/carpeted truck box with an external amp—not the custom specific versions JL sells) in my Crewmax and it’s plenty loud enough, but required a lot more install work to integrate with the factory jbl head unit/integrated amp)

I’ve been looking all over for a solution without having to sacrifice storage! I’ll be ordering one up soon. Thank you!
