I have a 800 watt invertor I want to mount inside my cap in the bed of my truck. I was going to run a feed from the front and need to know what size wire would work best. Thanks

    1 or 2... I lost count
I like to use this chart

This would suggest you should use 4 gauge wire (I'm assuming you are near or about 20ft). I used 1/0 ga for a 3000W inverter and a set of bus bars for other accessories in my bed.

800w at 12v is about 70A max load. I would assume close to 80A with voltage fluctuation.

The chart above is a good reference based on length of power wire between the battery and inverter. I would agree 4ga looks like a good option.

I strongly strongly recommend you put a 100A fuse within the first 1ft of power wire near the battery. If not all of your power circuit down the length of the truck will not be protected.

I work as an accident investigator and one of my cases, an 18 wheeler had a 6ft power wire to an inverter with no fuse. It shorted out under the cab, caught the truck on fire and the driver didn’t survive due to smoke inhalation.

    Put a fuse on it!

    Is that 800 watts AC?

Its 800 Watts, AC or DC. Watt is a measure of power, energy consumed over time.

    DC generally 12V
AC generally 120V but with alternating current

Power (Watts) = Voltage * Current (Amps)

    800W DC is lower voltage (12V) but higher Amperage (66A) 12 V *66 A= 800 W
    800W AC is high voltage (120V) but lower Amperage (6.6A) 120 V * 6.6A = 800 W

Its really just a big conversion becasue most household items, phone chargers, lamp, coffer pots, are made for 120V input.

Sh!t, that is back when I had my truck.
We're on day 180 of waiting on cat parts..:eek2:

Toyota is also replacing the battery, but I told them I wanted my Interstate back.
    I'm thinking I got a lemon on that X2.
But Batteries + can bite me, they didn't keep their promise to replace it without testing it for 3 days

Are you planning on running the negative wire to the battery? Or just running a shorter run to the chassis somewhere?
