    Hello to all,

This is my first post and not the most computer savvy guy in the world.

I am having issues with Toyota Canada, I will keep this short and to the point as best I can.

I bought my 02 Tundra last year in Alberta. Unfortunately the frame issue has popped up on me. I understand this has been beat to death, however I need the assistance of the Tundra Community on this one. I had a recall check done and was told the rear cross member had a service campaign on it.

    1. I went in, the frame had a hole 22x14mm 2" away from the cross member
    2. Was told it did not qualify for the frame replacement.
    3. I researched this thing to death. The NHTSA documents in the US show that any hole in the frame upon inspection (including bed removal) states the frame MUST be replaced. Talking to Toyota Canada they said the US one doesn't count. Talking to Transport Canada, they said they usually follow their US counterparts
    4. Toyota undercoated my frame with a hole in it, they did not remove the bed and did not spray the top of the frame or the tops of the cross member. Yes, a total hack job.
    5. They said, have a nice day.

Upon speaking with Toyota Canada on multiple occasion they have told me to pound sand. I even suggested to release a frame to me at MY COST (2500.00) They again told me to pound sand. What's a guy to do.....contact Transport Canada. The manufacturer has no one to answer to because it's not a recall. That's their way of circumventing someone watching over them.

Conclusion: Once Transport Canada has had enough complaints they will hold an investigation where under the new S2 Bill, they will be able to hold the company accountable for their engineering fail.

Please, if you have had a frame issue. Contact Transport Canada and place a complaint to hold Toyota Canada to the same standard as it's US counterpart which is still replacing frames to this day for people who actually need them.

    Thanks in advance,

    Creeperchimp

I'm really hoping so. I'm hoping Mike Holmes will get a hold of this somehow. The man who's all about "Make It Right" is promoting Toyota in the prairies. I would hate for his good name to be tarnished by a company who has poor ethics and values. I always promoted Toyota to everyone I know. I understand that all companies have issues, this one is special. NHTSA has it down, Transport Canada should follow suit and protect their consumers.

Sounds like they put a cheap bandaid on to fulfill the first part of "or"...

It's not right, a rusting out frame is dangerous. Have you consulted an automotive lawyer? These guys represented Toyota before, if it's a conflict of interest, maybe they can point you in the right direction http://www.casselsbrock.com/Section/Firm/Contact

I'd probably be more specific with your title "Do you have a Canadian 1st Gen Tundra affected by this rust recall?" to round up those affected into the discussion.

One question. Did you have the truck inspected by a professional prior to purchase? It was 15-16 years old when you bought it after all.

I appreciate all the information. It was a good read actually . When I talked with Transport Canada they seemed eager about this new bill. It will give them the power they never had . I'm in the beginning of this conundrum. Legal may be the only way, however if I go legal it may only affect me . I don't like to see people left in the dark about issues like this. I would want to see Toyota have to tell everyone to ensure they are all safe and taken care of .

landphil. It was checked . There was some flaking. I also cannot expect someone to descale a frame before purchase or beat someone else's truck frame aggressively as it was not mine at the time. Inspection or not, this would have become the previous owners problem or someone else's problem either way. Still does not make it right. Like I said, I was willing to purchase a frame and put it on. They denied me even buying one.....thats dirty. The fact that Toyota Canada has altered it's US document to mislead and misdirect Canadian consumers is also dirty.

I'm wondering if a US dealer would fix my truck under their recall ?

Do we have anyone that is a US Toyota tech? Any way to ask if a Canadian truck shows up with a hole in its frame if they will replace it ?
