PLEASE HELP! how do I keep getting the same wrong part?

    IMG_0646.jpg IMG_0647.jpg OK so this is kind of embarrassing, but please help me understand why I keep getting the wrong part.

    I need to replace my Power steering pressure hose.

    I’ve removed the old one and started installing the new (ordered off rockauto for $43) then discovered the threads are not fitting well or snug like the old one.

    Looking at both, it’s clear the older one is shorter than the new one.

    Can’t return it since started installing but no biggie, I then take the old hose to auto zone and show the guy what I need, but he brings me the same one I bought from rock auto, with the longer thread male so it can’t secure down properly.

    Am I ordering the wrong one and how is that possible if I’m entering my info correctly?

    Someone please help me figure out what I’m doing wrong to get this same part twice, and thanks in advance for your help, this has been a headache

    I don't know that it matters unless the longer threads cause the end to physically hit another part. Try it and see if it seals.

    How are you determining the part number?
    Go to this site: https://toyota-usa.epc-data.com/tundra
    Enter your VIN where it askes for your frame number, then navigate to your part. That will tell you the correct part number.

    Ok so it looks like the part number is 44410-0C082, can I just put that into rock auto and get the right part that way?

    Aah, that's a little unfortunate. USUALLY, you're better off getting a part OEM from Toyota. They run regular discounts through their online portal and that's compounded by regular promotions, so you can often get genuine OEM parts for as much as 50 percent off. But, that particular part, it seems that Toyota only sell the whole assembly. Even with the online discount, that's $600 ish. Maybe as low as $450 if they do a 25 percent sale Around July 4th. Way too much for what you want. Hopefully others can chime in with what they used to replace that one particular hose.

    However, the concept holds true. Use the site I gave you to find actual part numbers. Then try to buy OEM for wear and tear parts (Brakes, ball joints, hoses etc). This dealer also doesn't charge sales tax for out of state. https://autoparts.serratoyota.com/

    They (and other participating dealers) already give good discounts, and several times throughout the year, they will give 15-25 percent off those already discounted prices. That makes them often close to after market, but way higher quality.

    The o-ring is what makes the seal, not the threads. The length of the threads shouldn't matter. Are the threads fully engaging when you hand tighten?

    Removed lots of rust.
    You may find it easier if you release any other mounts to the power steering lines and then connect the rack pressure connector first and then go back and get the other mounts to fit. You need a lot of free play in the line to get the connection to fit.

    But if you really want to know, you can plug the part number (sometimes need to remove hyphen) at RA, and they'll spit out the parts that are known-equal (usually). Are any of these the part you ordered? Sunsong is what a lot of people on here use.

    My hard lines leaked at the rubber so I bought the Sunsong from RA and cannabilized the rubber parts since Toyota doesn’t sell individually.

    Wow $600 is kinda crazy. I found several on ebay using the number the OP quoted if that helps.

    My thought is to take the lines to a hose specialist, we have hose power and others here. They can make you new lines however you need, probably be more reasonable than $600.

    It seals on the front, as long as the threads are the same, it's ok. Doesn't matter if it's too long.

    I bought the Sunsong lines on Rock Auto and replaced all the lines in my truck. I'll say that getting the Sunsong lines to thread in properly to the steering rack was a bear. Had to use 1 arm to hold it at just the right angle (seems like it was ever so slightly off), and the other to thread the nut in. If you're having trouble getting it to thread in, that might be your problem.

    Turns out the rubber seals it fine, but now I have a new issue. Yet another line started leaking when I tested and it looks like thecontavt point is damaged , I’ll post pics in a moment

    This turned out to be true, but when I tested for leaks, now it’s leaking at ANOTHER point! Completely different line, but on the same system. I removed the part that I thought had a hole in it somewhere but found it’s where the O-ring seats itself against the context surface where it connects to the axle(?) I guess. Here are some pics of the deteriorated entry point that’s leaking, I don’t know if it’s possible for me to seal this now because using O-rings it doesn’t seal at all and it just dumps out at that point. You can see the good one is fine and that it doesn’t leak at all but the other point seems like it’s been damaged, likely when I did my pressure test there must’ve been either some particle or just from pressure buildup that made the aluminum collapse or something like that. Is there some other way that I might be able to seal this or do I have to get a whole new(I’m not sure what the part is called, axle? Steering rack? I’m not sure) part that the pressure line screws into? I’m so frustrated with this at this point I just want to be done.

    The picture that shows the more orange contact point is the one where it’s not damaged and there’s no leak, the other end of the pressure hose is that messed up one where it is leaking and you can see the damage it’s endured. Is there any hope for me to fix this? How can I get this to seal? My dad says that Teflon tape isn’t gonna do it so I’m just wondering if there’s any other options

    Yes it’s on and secured , no leaks at that line but when I tested the system, A NEW LEAK POINT developed. Totally different spot. Apparrently I’ve somehow damaged the o-rings contact surface on the return line, here a pics of the good one not leaking and then the other messed up one where it is leaking. Is there anyway I can fix this because I am at a loss for what I should do short of getting an entirely new steering rack.IMG_0441.png IMG_0444.jpg

    It's hard to tell because the photo is out of focus. Is that just rusty and gunky, or is the metal damaged? Can you get a better pic. And this pic is from the steering rack?

    Yes this is the steering rack. Tried to find a way to seal it but I think I damaged it when testing my new lines install. Needed to be done by today so I payed a shop who charged me 1700 for replacing the rack and pinion, then told me my pump was bad and charged me another $1000 to replace that. $2700 later and it’s STILL MAKING THOSE GROANING SOUNDS. I feel ripped off and broke.

    Yeah, you got robbed dude, and that’s fucked up. Our pumps just groan. It’s a well known issue. And will groan worse, supposedly, if you use power steering fluid instead of ATF (ATF, DexIII or higher, is correct). Adding a (teaspoon?) of liquid fabric softener in the fluid reservoir helps, others on here have claimed*.
