Here is the description from the seller. He’s asking $11k. My plan is to go in at 7.5k-$8k.

I have an 03 Toyota tundra 4x4 in good condition for sale. It has 141900 original miles on it. All maintenance is up to date including the timing belt done 20k miles ago and the front wheel bearings . This is equipped with Fabtech coil overs that give it 2.5 inches of lift. I bought this kit back in September and I have all the receipts. The rear leaf springs were rebuilt, along side one ad a leaf for a rear level. It allowed me to put 285/70/17 inch Toyo all terrain tires and gear alloy 17 inch rims. I also have spc upper control arms with stronger ball joints. The previous owner had the full SOS rear disc brake kit installed with slotted and drilled rotors making this a 4 wheel abs disc break system. There are some scratches, but overall is in good condition. Towing package included and touch screen stereo. Clean title, pink slip in hand and a clean CarFax in hand.

I plan on going to see it next week. He’s asking $11k and it’s been for sale for a while. He’s admitted it has some minor dings and scratches. Truck was up north for most of its life, but seems to have little to no surface rust. Of course I’ll be checking it out thoroughly. I’ll be posting some pics here if he sends them or once I get there. Interior looks clean and not in shambles. I want an access cab; crew cab is too big for me.

    Thanks!896D19EF-926F-43ED-A872-B6027B802F3D.jpg55EAB5C6-B26A-42B8-A3E7-BB3922879DD6.jpgAF5AB479-8B67-4936-AD45-9671A091CB96.jpg6F88E151-98F6-478D-8735-9FEE3C52F3DF.jpg

It'll likely stay for sale at that price. High end for sure. And a life in the north is a hard one. Check for rust, frame, rear diff, wheel wells under those flares etc. Good looking truck, nice suspension upgrades.

Apples for apples the 1st Gens AC I’ve seen with sub 200k miles have been ranging anywhere from $4-9k. Lately, I’ve been seeing a few $11k pops. These are online observations. Whether they are worth it after inspection in person is another story.

Mostly, the higher priced ones are from goofy kids slapping fugly rims and stereo on and reselling it a few years after getting it for free from Gramps.

The DC prices are ridiculous. $12-19k? For what? 40 more HP but the DC truck weights more too. Plus the air injections problems.

Looking at the above pics, you could just inspect the frame for holes or bubbles just inside frame in front of rear wheels where the frame overlaps. Same with the front boxed portion under/around engine. Those are the worst spots if she has the cancer. From your pics, what I see will be corrected with PB Blaster and grease rubbing. The frame will look new black again and never need another treatment.

The frame looks awful on this truck. I bet this truck was run off road a lot.
BTW, I paid around the same asking price for my 2nd gen truck with a few less miles.

Prices are very regional. We could all have opinions on pricing or tell you what we paid, but regional differences can be significant. The value of the same truck in Orange County is different that the Ozarks. You will need to do a lot of price checking in Texas for similar rigs, to get the most reliable info. Check Autotrader and other sites. By the way, the mods are worth nothing to increase the value, unless you are specifically planning to add the same mods to any truck you buy - then they are worth something to you. A lifted truck is worth less to me, as I don't like lifts on trucks.

As an aside, a red flag to me is when someone does a lot of recent mods like a significant lift, then puts the truck up for sale a few months later like this seller is doing. Did the lift cause other issues? Ride like crap? The seller unhappy with the results and trying to get his money back out while the mods are still "fresh?" Call me paranoid...

Check the frame crossmember above the spare tire, that's one of the big rust spots and hard to see

Nice looking from outside but I would walk, there are better deals to be had.

Asking a lot for a truck that doesn't look great under the body. I haven't seen Fabtech in years so if those are Fabtech they're probably as old as the truck.

Rear discs do cost a small fortune but that doesn't really add value. The rest of the things mentioned are just maintenance.

Those Fabtech's do not look less than a year old, they look terrible. Never heard good things about those shocks. Lots of rust, would give it a VERY thorough frame inspection.

I got a 2nd gen crew max for the kind of money you’re talking about spending

    I wouldn’t pay that,but that’s just me speaking.

I understand the fervor for well kept toyotas, I don't understand the overpriced market for trucks that have been abused.

People are asking 12000 for high mileage vehicles that have never been maintained, because they rolled trouble free for 200k. I aint payin that to bury myself in 5k of catch up, to own a burned up machine.

The other side of the ledger: New trucks cost are skyrocketing from soaring materials and goofy people buying trucks that don’t need them. This makes ‘used’ trucks market prices rise because of the disparity in payments.

Real world example: If I bought a new turd gen in 2018, then I’d be forking $600/mo for 5 years plus $2000/year in personal properly taxes. Gladly, Hansel talked me out of turd gen and I’ve kept the 2002.

Our trucks are worth keeping, but they still have a cost in maintenance and restoration. Currently, I’ve spent about $6k in 2 years plus countless ‘free’ labor. That works out to about roughly $225 a month and my personal property is only $100 a year!

I know I’d be pushing the $11k selling price if I was selling at this point (I’d be the loser at that price based on my input cost). The buyer would have a new truck for another 20 years (the winner).

Looking around in the market, I see lots of dogged out 1st Gens and many surface glossy trucks. Not many AC out there that have been shook down and really restored to make them worth that extra $$$ that the 4 doors DC in dumpy condition are fetching for some reason.

I agree each truck has its own story.
If you don't want to pay a certain price for a certain truck then don't but you also can not pretend you know the history or condition of any most rigs just from a crappy pic or 2 and a listing online.

Buying smart requires actual work and selling smart used to require actual work as well but now that some are so stupid that they buy without doing the work first there are never any lack of assholes willing to take the money from a lazy buyer.

There are also things about any truck that you just can not know in advance and there is always risk involved.

This is why when people say a truck is worth whatever someone will pay they are dead on,there is one born every minute on both sides of a deal ripe for the taking but far fewer willing to uncover the real deal.

I imagine most guys buying trucks do not spend time in places like this training themselves how to be smart about the hunt and the market bares this out all the time!

Oh and P.F.M. that Hansel is Hot right now too,Long Live Morty Ballstein!

If I were to sell mine as it sits now, I'd probably get $2500-$4000 for it. If I did a respray and scrubbed the interior I could probably fetch 8k. Will I? Hell no.

California prices are crazy high. Are you open to travel? I'm in Denver and 4X4/AWD prices are high here. I bought my truck in Utah for $2,000 less than it would have sold in Colorado. Arizona prices seem to be decent and no rust issues.
