Hi all, I've been lurking on these forums almost everyday for the past 8 months, and I'm excited to be picking up my first truck this weekend, and feel as if it's appropriate to open an account. I am from Quebec Canada, but will be purchasing my vehicle in Ontario.

I was able to score a hell of a deal on a Double Cab 2021 TRD Sport Premium in White. It is a used / demo vehicle with 16k km on it, used by a marketing division. It comes with a few dealer add ons (tonneau cover, running board to name a few) and I was able to get it for ~$45k CAD + Tax.

I am currently driving a 2008 Volvo XC70 station wagon, and being an avid backcountry skier, white water paddler, hunter and mountain biker I've been looking for a truck for quite a while. I also occasionally tow a trailer for some side work. Originally I was looking at a Tacoma for better economy and maneuverability but after a test drive I wasn't impressed. The tundra drove better hands down, and the fuel economy is not much different. I also was not impressed with the sight lines in the tacoma. It felt like there were a lot of blind spots with the small windshield and square hood. It actually made maneuvering the larger tundra easier. I felt as if I could see better.

I already have quite a few plans for the truck. I chose doublecab over crewmax as I value the longer 6.5' bed. I am 6' tall, and plan to build out the box "van life" style, using the truck for skiing / biking / paddling trips. I like the looks of the go fast camper, however I wish it popped straight up like the 4 wheel campers. I'm exploring making up something of my own. Suspension and wheel wise I'm not doing anything too crazy. I do not have a lift planned. Stock, the truck comes with the 20" rims. I have a set of 255/70/r18 blizzak winter tires on steelies I'll be putting on right away as we get a fair bit of snow here. The thinner 255's cut through the snow and slush a lot better, and I like the 18" rims with more tire sidewall visually, and for ride quality.

I'll update the thread with pictures this Saturday when I pick the truck up. I am beyond excited to be taking the plunge!

side note; at 16k km i am planning on changing the oil, and potentially differential / t-case fluids shortly. anything else you would suggest?

Welcome....and on your oil change question, I would suggest you change the oil at 5k miles, not wait to 10k miles/16km. I know toyota says oil changes every 10k miles, but that is a long time for the filter to be in there. Most of us stick to 5k miles unless it is a strictly highway driving rig.

Oil change is being done for sure! I'm a big believer in changing it early. I'll likely do every 8k km. I'm thinking front /rear diff and transfer case as well. Easy enough to do, and to remove any metal shavings from break in.

I guess what I'm asking is in addition to those things, would you suggest anything else?

Nope, you are on track! Being up north, you probably already fluid film or otherwise protect the undercarriage of your vehicles...would certainly suggest that for the coming winter in your area.

Yup! Fluid film, and some other winter proofing will be done this week. I've also read quite a bit on potential rodent issues. I'll be covering up my cabin air intake to keep the critters out!

20211115_182509.jpg Just drove the truck 7hrs back to Quebec. I'm impressed. Not quite as smooth as my old Volvo, but that's to be expected with a truck. It was however much more powerful, and comfortable with the extra space. I didn't do that bad fuel efficiency wise, 13.7l/100, or about 17mpg. I'm quite content with it!

Registering the truck in Quebec was a bit of a hassle as it was bought out of province. I had to pay Ontario sales tax at the time of purchase, and a fee for Ontario safety inspection. Then today I had to pay for a Quebec safety inspection, and the Quebec sales tax, plus wait around for 2hrs at their office. I now have to submit a tax form in order to be reimbursed the Ontario sales tax.

The truck just barely fits into my "garage" (tighter than the picture shows) it is 12'Wx24'Lx8'H with the door opening being just over 6' tall. Had to fold the mirrors in and unload everything before backing it in, and I can just barely open the door enough to slide out.
