I need a new rack and pinion and I know that the oem ones aren’t the most reliable for off-road usage. Are there any rack and pinions available for 1st gens? or is the oem the best you can do?

OEM is best. High Dolla when brand new (not reman) so treat her right.

Agree with this. I too try and stick with OEM as much as possible.

Not sure how many miles your truck has or overall maintenance history, but if it’s original rack & pinion, it’s lasted 15-20 years. Hard to beat that IMO.

When I had the dealer replace mine about 1 1/2 years ago. They could not get a oem for 5 months on back order. They ended up putting in one from NAPA.

Wish I had at least saved the OEM. So if ever needed again. I could send it off to be rebuilt.
