I was trying to get a quote yesterday on paint matching my endcaps. My guy told me I should paint them, other than powdercoat. He said paint would be spot on and the powdercoat has a chance to not be correct....

    can anyone verify?

or explain the difference between the two?

Well, I believe the paint is more likely to match but not nearly as durable as PC. I don't know much about PC but, depending on the color you want, they should be able to get pretty close.

I mean, I know a lot of people get them powdercoated, and they seem to look pretty spot on to me. but I guess I don't really understand the difference

The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a "skin".

powder coat won't match the level of gloss of clear coat but it is more durable

Picking my bumper ends up today from powder coat shop.. I’m 100% sure that paint is gonna be spot on, as opposed to powder coat. I know powder coat is going to be a lot more durable.. plus I’m sure it’s going to be cheaper. The white is almost the same for mine. Doesn’t really bother me. Nobody will notice unless you tell them and make the look..

I don’t think the matching grill/hood bulge stuff sent from Toyota really match.. they look diff to me but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you paint them and need to touch one up you can but if you powder coated them that's it can't touch up unless it's sandblasted and completely redone.

I touched up my powdercoated front passenger end. While it doesn't look totally unbelievably awesome, it looks fine and unnoticeable unless you mention it.

I PC'd mine and I can tell a slight difference. Not sure if due to powder coat vs paint of if wrong white was picked. Unless you're looking for it you won't notice, but I did because I see my truck daily.

My truck is black. So the matte contrast looks good because it picks up the matte plastic middle bumper, more door handles, matte wheels and matte badges. White may be a different story.

If you have a white truck, and you look hard enough, you'll probably see a difference between painted plastic and painted sheet metal, white is a mf'er to match, far far less forgiving than any other color. I'd be willing to bet, even with 040 Toyota paint, you'd see a difference in whites if you look hard enough.

I tried powder coat on the front ends MGM and it ended up not matching. Got them painted over the powder. Costly mistake.

I went with PC and regret it. The color on the swatch was perfect but the outcome...not so much. I have MGM and my caps are a bluish gray.

Very costly, I need to have mine painted but don't want to spend the money again with Christmas around the corner.

Well I spent $240 on powder coat then another $350 to paint them. So all in $590.

It sucks the powder coat shops cant put your color in a computer and come out with the right color powder. I had to pick also and it was a lot closer than @WatTundra truck but I couldn't deal with it.

Yeah sorry to hear that.. honestly has me thinking that I don't even wanna chance it.. I'm not an angry person by any means and I'm super calm, but I would explode.. I'm very peculiar about what I spend money on, and I wouldn't have that
