He mentioned one that he used to fill up at all the time, but it's on the other end of Phoenix from me. I'll look online and see if I can find anything closer.

IDK about cheaper...Boostane is $30 for a 32oz can and treats 128 gallons raising each gallon of 91 up to 95. That comes out to approx $0.23 extra per gallon on top of your 91 premium. With current 100octane avgas prices between $4.20 and $5 I figure Boostane saving you at east $1 per gallon to get into the mid 90's like you describe.

Don't get me wrong...if you are going racing and want top shelf run the AV/Race gas. On the street and for just a little insurance against sub par premium fuel...I'll stick with the boostane :)

Sounds like a better deal compared to the Torco. He told me he sells them at $22 per 32oz can.

I fill up approx. 26 gallons per week. If the Boostane is good for 128 gallons that would be right at almost 5 fill ups per 1 can of Boostane. At $30 a pop, that's only costing me an extra $6 per fill up ($6/wk) to bump our subpar 91 octane to 95? Sounds a little too good to be true. Am I missing something?

    is it a Harrop S/C?

We are hearing of some reports online that Harrop S/Cs have an issue where the coolant from the heat exchanger inside the S/C leaks, causing 1 or more cylinders to ingest some coolant over time, and then the S/C can get hot and cause det.

Nope, I'm running the Magnuson with their tune via HP Tuners.

I think i'm going to pull the trigger on the tune. 17 FFV, Stock with 35's and straight muffler 2 into 1.

I tried to catch up on things in this thread but with all of the bitching and off topic posts here. Frankly i'm lost on what's what. is there a comprehensive single source of truth as to what I should be asking for and what to expect? I'm not about to weed through this thread anymore.

Pretty much across the I-10 from Wild Horse Pass race track is a Loves truck stop that sells 100 octane race fuel. $$

Just a note too, you can always just not full throttle it or whatever happens to make it ping if you only have access to low octane. I've been with people where they were going to leave their truck in the middle of nowhere because they only had access to 85 octane. As long as it's not pinging there's no issues. I have a smaller pulley on my Magnuson and can ping below 2000ft elevation. I've thought of carrying octane booster, but at the same time i can always just not use the full 550+ horsepower. So while I think it doesn't hurt to have octane booster on hand, just because you're limited to 80% power (still more than stock) doesn't mean the truck is dead in the water haha

Agree, but the problem is that I get the pinging when cruising at highway speeds and attempting to accelerate (light to moderate throttle), not so much at WOT. This appears to be the only scenario that I can hear it, but I drive 2/3 of my miles on the freeways, so this tends to happen often. I've put about 35 miles on since pouring 32oz of Torco in a fresh tank of Shell 91 Octane gas yesterday and it still happened again. If it were to only happen at WOT it would be much easier to control and prevent the detonation. We'll see how this week goes.

Mat, do you offer a tune upgrade for individuals that decide to go from NA to either a Magnuson or Harrop?

Everyone else: for someone with a FFV, and someone that doesn't have a desire to tear into the engine for upgrades, is the Magnuson the better option?

    Thanks in advance

I went from N/A to S/C'd while OVTuned. Understand that it may take time to find the correct base S/C tune for your specific ECU from which Mat may first have you data log from before making any changes.

Dangit. Have had this in my cart a couple times over last few weeks. Went to check out and got distracted looking at computers since I don’t have a windows laptop currently. Oh well, see what happens with the patches getting finished and grab one then

Right out of the box, on a stock truck (No headers, not lifted, no oversized tires ect..) The Harrop S1 kit, and the Magnuson TVS1900 are very close in power. The Harrop kit cost up to $1,200-$1,500 more for basically a small % of HP gain.

The Harrop TVS2650 just has more ability to make more horsepower with supporting mods.

Depends on what your goal is. You also need to consider warranty work, if needed. It's nice to know Magnuson is based in California, vs. Harrop being based in Australia. Harrop does have a "shop" in OH, however, getting specific parts could have a long turnaround time.

Both are great. I went with the Harrop because I have plans to add supporting mods to bring the Harrop alive.

Lastly, the OV tune kicks ass.

I flashed a new tune yesterday with the following options:

    91 octane
    6000 rpm redline
    long tube headers
    37s and 4.88 gears
    4wd throttle limits removed

I only drove it around easy because I replaced a lot of parts all in one go but it drives great. shifting is perfect and engine is smooth. Of course, I can feel more power, but thats from the new headers. I'm looking forward to doing some data logging and tune revisions but I will wait for the new features that Mat is working on.

    Thanks @OVTune !
