If you want to have a really notice-able change in power without boost, you need full bolt ons and tuning on premium.

a relatively stock truck, tuned on 91, or 93, isn't going to blow to doors off a stock truck in a race. 10-15 HP is hardly noticeable in a vehicle this size. Which is why additional features are so important, because if you're buying the tune only to get 10-15 extra hp you're not getting a whole lot.

I love the truck much more than I already did. I'm looking forward to what the future has in store for us. Also have to decide if I want to keep Gearlock or go with Direct Shift. I'm leaning towards direct shift more, but want to see what others thoughts are.

Please explain the difference to me?

I was under the impression they were almost identical except originally two haul had to be pressed for gear lock and now direct shift "holds gears" and behaves like a true manual/tip-tronic mode...so they sound identical to me.

I'd imagine if they were the same, there wouldn't be the need for both of them ;), lol, but from what I understand Gearlock is more useful in towing in that I can lock the gear in place and give it more gas instead of downshifting which I would imagine causes the truck to lose some of the available torque and HP that one might need while towing up an incline for example. With direct shift, it is more of a tip-tronic/dsg transmission where I tell it what gear I want and it shifts.

You said gearlock "lock gear in place".
Direct shift you tell it what gear you want.

Tip mode "locks gear in place" as it behaves like a manual.

Not trying to be rude, just saying that sounds the same to me.

Glad you're having a good laugh. the change with my truck was more than 5 horsepower. It's a very noticeable change. If you aren't noticing anything that's too bad. Maybe you've got a lot of weight in your truck. The dyno sheet on the first page was from my truck. I don't think anyone is fixated... seeing gains in those areas and deciding not to buy a tuner because someone didn't do a 0 to 60 test is what cracks me up.

If you increase tq and hp on a vehicle without changing anything else, there is a pretty damn good chance that vehicle will get to 60 mph faster at wot. In what world doesn't that make sense? :notsure:

From most of your posts ive read, it doesn't sound like you are trying to be the voice of reason, but rather the voice of contrarianism. Which is fine, just don't piss on people's heads and call it rain. You are definitely in the minority buying a tuner and not expecting any power gain.

From Mats post on the previous page, as I understand it gearlock tries to lock the hear you choose but it doesn't force it to shift to that. For instance if you're in 4th and upshift to 6th, it'll take it's time to get there. Once there it's pretty locked in, but you were never fully controlling it to get there.

Direct shift is full manual control where you move the selector and it'll go to that gear, versus gearlock which is more of a "suggestion" to go and hold there.

I'll still take a gander back but thank you!

To me, direct shift would be my personal choice.

I found it odd that the stock programming doesn't allow this use. I also hate that going into S mode also auto downshifts to 4th - I don't want that lol

Depends on your ECU ID honestly,
I'll still be doing some work and updates after the 15th, but we wont be shipping after the 15th.

After some more testing, there will be a necessary update for SUPERCHARGED trucks that want DirectShift. We need a new transmission torque output map for directshift on S/C trucks so there isn't a lag on WOT upshifts

    General feedback for those interested:
I haven't really had the time to dive my truck since the last update was sent out before Thanksgiving. The log that I sent Mat today was some random driving around, cruising, mild, aggressive, and WOT (4X4) accelerations. What I wanted to share the most was the surprise that I had doing an aggressive 2X4 acceleration. The truck has never done this before, so the share. I pull onto a dry 45mph roadway, about 40*F and started to get increasingly more aggressive into the throttle. At about 40mph, the back wheels began to spin. This was an entirely new experience for me. The only caveat was that I am now running my studded snows, so they're not the ideal for traction, but still.... Oh, and this is at 8000ft elevation, not a lot of air. Also, this was in Drive.

If roll through first gear and wait for 2nd gear shift and romp hard on it, my truck will break free as well. Especially in temps below 40*. Cold tires and pavement have considerably less grip and the boost feels like it comes on alot stronger in cooler temps. Anything under 50* = Boost weather! Still feels cool.

Ya, I agree that the conditions were favorable to wheel spin. This was new behavior for me though, still buzzing from it.

Today my gearlock was acting funny. Well, maybe not funny but I've never seen it do this. I was pulling my camper, 4000-4500 pounds, and the transmission would downshift once enough load, either from an incline or holding the throttle down further than normal. Anyone notice that before? It didn't feel like the truck needed to downshift.

I had never felt it do this without the camper behind it. Maybe the weight had something to with it.

I wonder if there aren't some safeguards built in, like if the timing can't adjust enough to deal with a too aggressive low RPM/high gear situation where there's a knock danger. The only thing that comes to my mind is to suggest that you try to log the scenario when you have the chance.

I was wondering if that might be the case. Especially since I hadn't notice it happening without the camper.

So I just got my new 2020 Tundra and traded in the '18 Tacoma. My Tacoma was OVtuned and I returned it to stock before trading it in. What is Matt doing for customers that have switched to a Tundra? How long before the '19 and '20 Tundras can get a Tune? Matt? @OVTune

Absolutely. First trip out. Shifted on demand just like you stated. It’s how I thought S mode was stock and was disappointed after I realized how stock S mode worked. Back into D, this latest tune seems to react much faster shifting wise to my accelerator .... meaning it up shifts sooner under light acceleration and funds the correct gear mush faster when stomping it. Very nice. I do know what you mean about shifting on full pull. I just wrote it off to being so smooth.
