Ok, after my downsizing move (still not freaking done!) I have been out of touch on here. I took a well deserved vacation and am wheeling in New Mexico. Yesterday I was in 4LO and have no control of my power. In my opinion Toyota could have left the GD gear out of the transfer case if they do not allow you to actually use it.

Has there been a way found to remove the limitations in 4LO?

If you mean during 1rst gear then yes, we figured that out a long time ago.

    Expected Friday

Also, we will have support for some 4.0L Tundras released at the same time.
no tune packs on those though just calibration support. Also to be clear my cal engineer is doing this stuff, not me. So I am still focused on the current developments / tune packs / etc

    Hello,

New member with a question about the OV Tune. I just bought a used 2017 Tundra TRD PRO FFV, and I'm wondering how I might know/verify if the previous owner might have flashed OV Tune or perhaps another tune on the truck. Based on what I've read about gear lock and direct shift, it feels like it may have these features, however I have no other wheel time to compare to. When in S mode, I can rev to redline in any gear, and I can also start out in 2nd or 3rd if I want, but I also noticed that upshifting is not crisp and purposeful (quite a delay) yet downshifting is as if I was driving a manual. I don't know if this is how these trucks feel stock or if it's been tuned? Any help is appreciated.

From your descriptions it does have the OV tune. You can email ov tune with the VIN of the truck.

Enjoy the tune. It maybe tuned for 91 octane.

Thanks very much! Big help. Would you have any personal input about the slow upshifts? Is this normal, or perhaps something that needs to be data logged, and addressed?

Sounds stock to me. Does it hold say 4th gear when you stomp on it or does it down shift? Gear lock would keep it in 4th or whatever gear is selected. Stock it only limits the top gear, hence the ability to redline. It will up shift when it wants. Direct shift makes it shift right after the command.

I'll check that tomorrow. I'm also gonna email support as art64 suggested. I just thought I'd get some input from other members with first hand experience with the tune. Thanks for the reply. I'll post the answer once I know.

You can also try that in one of the lower gears to see if it will downshift. Not just unlock the converter though, actually change gears, some folks can miss that.

support@ovtune.zendesk.com but remember that he gets literally hundreds of emails a day, so patience is helpful.

we are almost cleared out with our unassigned emails (sorry we get so many emails from tacoma owners on a daily basis) so I should be able to see it pretty quick if you email there.

It's normal. Although it can be adjusted in vF tuner. But understand the risk of damaging transmission from shock. And also, the transmission will only upshift as fast as it is designed as stock. You put some valve body modifications in it and it will shift faster and harder.

    - Tune for 91+ octane - 4Low -5.29 - SC - 2psi+
    - Tune for 91+ Octane - Torque Modified - 4Low -5.29 - SC - 2psi+

    The tunes change the following
    - AFR / Enrichments
    - Ignition timing
    - Valve timing
    - Throttle scaling
    - Airload caps in some cases
    - Shifting up/down/scaling/axis/transmission torque
    -ACIS tuning
    -Rev limit
    and a bit more.

Torque Modified are tunes where the *downshift* and *upshift* throttle limits are modified so that when you downshift or upshift the ECU does not reduce torque and throttle so much.
The tunes are not locked, and can be further edited in vF Tuner. Like the tacoma, we will also have 4.88/5.29 versions of them as well.

4Low are tunes that have 4 Low 1rst gear limitations removed (for offroad use)

Now we have every calibration, finally....

The SC tunes are all premium fuel required of course. The "2psi+" are for trucks running slightly smaller pulleys. These are out of the box working tunes but for absolute best performance dyno tuning should still be done.

At a later time, there will be an option where you can load the file into vF Tuner and select an option to enable Gearlock. Due to issues with individual calibrations, we don't have an eta yet on when directshift, specifically, will be available on all calibrations.

For folks who have our flash kit you can upgrade to VF Tuner for free, have your custom tune converted, and receive these files too if you want them. We will also finalize any changes you may still require on your custom tune.

A few of you guys got tune packs that did not have all of these files, you will be sent new tune packs.

All tunes come standard with our shift mapping we developed in 2020.

Sweet! So to obtain the 2021 tune pack do I just need to unlock my ECU in VF and email zendesk or is it all done through VF now?

Mat, this is awesome. I would consider myself an "old customer". Where would we get access to these tunes? Thanks.

    Nice work, Mat!

So will it take just working with each ecu to get gearlock and direct shift working?

I don’t have the newer ecu version. Will these tunes work on my truck?

I also sent you an email on working with you one on one to get those features worked out with my older tune. One that’s figured out, is that something I could get converted if I wanted to adjust shift points? I’m thinking about going to 33 inch tires at some point. So I’ve put about 70k miles on my truck since I’ve had your various programs loaded. Saved me a lot of money on fuel!

    Thanks
