Wow, that sounds great. How much did that cost? Did you document the process by any chance? Do you require premium gas or other mods to get that change in the torque curve?

If your truck is like mine (it does vary by year, getting worse supposedly in later models), then the stock mapping is pretty awful. The throttle is very nonlinear, and the trans is overly eager to select a high gear, and also avoid locking in gear. D+TH helps a lot. OTT can mod the throttle and trans behavior to your taste, with a slight power boost as well... although I think you might need to use premium gas for that...?

I purchased my own HP Tuners MPVI3 because I wanted control and ownership of everything down the road. This and enough credits to “unlock” my ECU was $600. Dyno time and building the tune was another $850, if I remember correctly. Mighta been able to get this cheaper, but I used a reputable shop that I have confidence in.

My tune does not require premium fuel. I’ve been running basic old 87 octane since the tune was done, nearly 100K miles ago.

I was not directly involved with the tuning, but a fella could compare tables between a stock tune and the modified to find the differences. I haven’t dug into any of those tables because it runs so dang good. I’ve only learned how to tune the transmission stuff, which was a good bit more involved than I’d guessed!

Whatever this forum told me to do
    favor

can you show the dyno diff between stock & tuned?

I'm not asking as a jerk....

I'm asking because I took about the same path - dyno wise - when I put on the S/C.

realizing your is N/A...I'd like to see where the gain is.

That the part I'm also interested in. A little more power is always good and getting that on 87 makes it even better!!

Yep! I’ve got a pdf copy that I can dig up. I screen shot it way back when, but the image is garbage. I’ll see if I can track down the pdf and post it up for you today.

Just realized that we've gotten a bit off topic and wanted to apologize to the OTT gang!

Thanks!... but, I'm confused... why does the low end of the baseline data fall off a cliff and end at 3500 rpm?

Whatever this forum told me to do
    that was good

I like seeing a consistent, smooth increase

that tells me OTT is GTG

Ftr- this is the first time I’ve seen a dyno on OTT

    Good stuff

Has anyone unlocked the throttle limits in 4LO through a tune? My local OTT dealer said he's not familiar with the 4LO throttle limit so he wasn't sure if it could be done or not.

I'm pretty stoked with the tune (N/A, 35s, stock gears, 4WC) but it would be so much better if the throttle limits could be removed for the rocks and snow.

Please note that my tune was not related to OTT at all. This is a tune that was entirely developed and written by in independent shop on their dyno. They started with nothing but my truck, a stock tune file provided by HP Tuners, and the tuner's skill. I have not been a truck that was tuned with OTT's file, so can't offer any comparison.

Great question, and I don't have a good answer for you. My assumption is that they did some previous runs on the stock tune with full range, but I'm unsure why the low end isn't on the graph. It looks to me like they just left it on from about the peak torque point, which was 3,800 RPM.

Thanks. I was a little hesitant after paying so much for the custom tune, as the increases were not a lot. Once I started driving and feeling the real-world improvements, I was not disappointed.

Also note that I am on heavy 35" tires with 5.29 gearing. My truck weighs over 7,000# and feels quicker now than it did all stock.

I can't remember if this is doable or not! We didn't try on mine, as I wouldn't see much benefit. @snivilous might be able to add to this, I believe he is much more familiar than I am.

We have access to it, but we dont advise removing them completely, especially if you actually wheel your truck.

Is there a middle-ground, like an adjustment instead of removal? Some sort of adjustment would be great but my local dealer had no clue what I was referencing

Justin must have more access than us mortals. My understanding is (with mortals HPT) that removing "all" the torque limits does NOT actually disable them. I have not personally experienced that, but I had talked with @Cruzer in the past about trying to turn everything off and the ECU would still interfere and stop his truck trying to climb some obstacles. I haven't tried to verify that since I've never taken my Tundra into any serious rocks, though I remove as much limits as possible since I'd rather make the decision to break things instead of the truck deciding.

Copy/paste your graph here since folks are hunting for it again. Looks like it is very similar to what I put up. Should be an excellent gain for the majority!

They are addressed within a "comfortable" range to allow a little extra freedom, but keeping things curtailed enough to hopefully keep drivetrain components in one piece when bound up off-road.

In my opinion, this is a very wise approach. If I ever find myself in a position where I need all the beans in low range, I’d prefer to make a line adjustment.

This applies to my Tundra, which I care about. If it were my wheeler, I’d be more onboard with Sniv’s preference.
