My tuner mentioned this as well. He told me the OTT would make the 2.5 Gen throttle feel similar to the 2nd Gen. I have the Med/Spicy and like it.

Do you make a tune for the 4.6 engine?

Question without starting a whole new thread:

How does the OTT tune adjust to larger diameter tires in regards to shifting/efficiency?

I'm due for new tires, currently running stock P size. Before this set I went from the stock P metric to 295/70 18 and wasn't too bothered by the performance hit but I also didn't run them for more than about 1000 miles before I got rid of them (one tire never balanced and I gave up with the tire shop).

I'm considering 295 again (michelin defender) and wondering how the OTT tune adjusts to tire size as far as driveability and gear hunting? Even with the stock P size, I have to leave it in S-6 on the highway and downshift to 5 for the rolling uphills.

Never did like the sluggish shifting on this truck. I've had it for almost 10 years and think I'll finally get the transmission tuned with OTT. Just wondering if OTT also shifts better when running larger tires.

It does. But to get the most out of it, you will want to have the tune updated to reflect the tire change. It won’t change/recalibrate your speedometer, but the tune is reconfigured to let the computer know that load and rpm will be different than it was previously so shift points can be optimized.

Some folks don’t notice a difference without the tune update, some notice a big difference.

I am running 305/55r20 and I notice that the after the tune, my truck doesn't hunt for gears any more. The truck has no hesitation anymore when I step on it. I love it.

I can't explain the details but I can say when I put the Falken wildpeak at4w 295/70/18s on I noticed a little drop in drivability, not horrible but did notice a difference.

Got the ott medium/ spicy and drivability was better than before on flat roads and climbing hills.

Thats my 2 cents, take it how ever you want.

Have you tried using tow-haul? That accomplishes most of what a tune would do, only the tune is more customizable and can give a slight power boost. TH gets rid of the sluggish shifting and hunting, and it holds low gears longer instead of being so "eager" to shift to the highest gear. It also improves the throttle response, which will feel touchy at first.

I discovered on a recent trip that using TH and S mode will still hunt on uphills, which sucks. TH and D never does, even with the camper at high altitude. Try that and see how you like it; a tune will only be better... plus you won't have to push the button. They can surely make it so it works properly in S mode as well. It's nice to be able to control the gear.

Anyone with an 08 have this tune? I’ve read mixed reviews on the 07-09 tundras with lackluster results.

I had a bulldog “canned tuner” on my truck and wasn’t impressed at all.

Ive been considering the OTT for a while now, and the reviews are obviously overwhelmingly good, but one thing I don't think Ive seen mentioned is a comparison of which tuned "flavor" is closest to the stock tow/haul mode throttle sensitivity?

Our Medium setting is similar to the factory tow-haul setting.

That’s probably our most used combination.

I’m a Lite guy with stock tow-haul throttle myself.

@JustDSM , does your tune work the same for throttle response and gear shifting in both S and D mode, or can they be made different? I discovered recently that mine will hunt pretty bad in some situations in S + TH, but never does in D + TH. I thought they'd work the same, but Toyota must map them differently.

It does provide throttle adjustment for S-Mode in both "Normal" and "Tow-Haul". However, they are not independently mapped (between S-Mode and Drive). That's a Toyota operating system limitation.

Shifting as well? So S and D will perform the same in both normal and TH?

Normal and Tow-Haul have independent shift scheduling. But S-Mode will use the Normal or Tow-Haul shift schedule (for upshifts not limited by the S-Mode selection, and downshifting). There are separate S-Mode TCC settings from the Normal and Tow-Haul settings used in Drive.

Really impressed with the shifting on this tune! I’m running Medium/Spicy right now and it feels a bit tame, so I’ll probably step up to Spicy/Extra Spicy soon. But man, the shifting is amazing. Power too. I feel like there was a lot to be unleashed in there.

Switching from my 2015 to the 2019, the difference in shift quality (especially climbing mountain passes) is night and day. Both trucks run 35x12.5s, but my 2019’s stock shift patterns were horrible. Spent the evening ripping up and down Tahoe — huge improvement!

My 2015 was not tuned. Shift mapping stock was much better vs 2019 stock. Pretty sure they changed something in 2018/2019. Both have tow package, 5.7 non-flex, etc. Only real difference were my previous wheels on the 2015 were 20x10 with Falkens AT3W, and I had a fiberglass topper – 2019 setup is 18x9 with those heavy Mickey Thompsons, and currently sitting without topper since I'm slowly still moving between houses.

Throttle mapping has always been bad on my 2016, but gear hunting on climbs only showed up with the camper on, and using tow-haul fixed that. I use a throttle controller and TH all the time now. Seems weird that they'd change the ECU outside of the generation changes. It's steadily gotten worse!

    Pretty good thread.

600.00? That's a pretty good deal if that also includes transmission tuning. Hell, even if it doesn't...see below.

This would be for my 2025 power stroke. Not sure why I would need more than 500 hp/1200 tq, but whatever. So for just under 2000.00. Now this system has more features and the shift on the fly is something OTT should really look into...maybe they have and there's a reason why it's not an offering.

    IMG_1703.jpg IMG_1704.jpg

I personally think you can get a lot more drivability from customizing the ECM/TCM suited for your driving style/needs. Engine tuning without transmission tuning is asking for trouble (imo), but most of the tuning I've dealt with is SC, TC, or T diesels that can add substantial torque.

I used the same company for tuning my Duramax and that 10 year old truck would smoke my new one with similar horsepower but less torque. Would it smoke my current truck towing? Not a chance, but there is a lot of room to improve the overall feel. The shift schedule would be a major improvement.

Tried tow/haul in D today. Drive was down the interstate 75mph rolling hills and about 800 pounds in the bed. This worked really well on cruise control. I'll still get the tune if I go to larger tires.

Just got the tune done today...got the med/spicy tune. Im on 37s with stock gearing for now on my 2018. It feels alot better driving on regular mode. Only thing i noticed is when I put it in tow/haul mode, the truck doesnt feel as jumpy off the line or from a stop anymore. Is this normal?

It's my understanding that you have the ability to map both D and D+TH to taste. But maybe I dreamt that...

Anyway, are you saying it feels the same in D+TH as it does in D? Is D+TH less sensitive than it was before the tune?

In my opinion, you’ll gain drivability. My tune really lowered my peak torque RPM. While my peak gain was small, the RPM for my new peak is just under 3,000 instead of closer to 3,800. Big improvement for hauling my travel trailer up hills, as 4th gear at 60 mph is right at 3,000 RPM.
The transmission shift schedules and TCC behavior improvements are also much nicer, if your tuner works on those.

Worth noting, my tune was done on a dyno and the trans adjustments were made over several revisions based on driving performance.

Oh gotchya. That's about what I thought. I didn't expect huge hp or torque numbers. Thank you very much!!
