I’m pretty certain I want a platinum package. What options are available? All I can find is optional moonroof or running boards. Is that pretty much it?

Ok...verifies what i was noticing. The moonroof is supposed to be an option but they all have them it seams. Id rather pass to get the storage compartment.

OP FWIW not all sales people advertise, but if you are willing to wait, you can request the dealership inv manager request exact vehicle w/o a moonroof for you. Under 2k are produced per year so you may have to await the next 1 or 2 production window. I waited 4 weeks for mine and it was on the train to my dealer the day after it came off the line.

Yeah good luck finding one without a moonroof.... They are out there but few and far between and depends on color and geographical region. Do not remember the exact colors, but some truck colors automatically come with the upgraded moonroof. I got Silver LMetalic and if you build a Platinum Silver Metalic it is automatically added on with no option to remove.

There is little to no options on the Platinum. More of a it is what it is.....

No TRD off road package or anything. TRD exhaust and sway bars would be dealer added not something that is a build option.

Pretty sure white is the only Platinum you can get w/o a moonroof. They are all add-on cost to the msrp but you dont really have a choice of w/o unless you go with white. Toyota doesnt like options nor do they like technology/luxury uniformity in the Tundra. ie- push button start/smart key entry, leather wrapped steering wheel for upper tiers

The lack of push button start really pisses me off. $50k and I gotta dig around in my pockets? My 2016 Sienna SE has push button start....

It's just about got everything included. Some don't like it because you can't get any Pro or Offroad packages. It does come with a front sway bar but not a rear.

I like it because I don't have to worry about installing some of the options that the Limited and SR's don't have. Not only that but it's a blank slate for me. I can personalize it now with a lift, tires, etc. that I like. I am working on that now and should have mine done in a few more weeks.

Also, I got a lot of help from many on this forum so that I could choose the right parts. I am going with 35's and a Fox coil over and reservoir shocks on mine. 3/1 lift. I can't wait...

I hear ya! My 12' Camry has it but not my 17 Platinum. Makes no sense to me. 2020 top tier Tundras will finally have it though

I purchased my black platinum with no moonroof and no steps, saved me right at 2 grand for steps I would have pulled off and a moonroof that I never would have used. They are out there, you just have to find them.

I’ve been turning a key for 45 yrs. push a button turn a key. Non issue.
Once the theives learn how to scan your code they won’t even need to hot wire the ignition.

I wasnt quite sure until now. Seemed stupid to me. I know when you build them on the site (6 months ago was last time i tried) white was the only way you could build w/o the moonroof. I thought i read something on it too, but you have proven me wrong sir! Toyota is one strange cookie sometimes

I just really like the smart key feature. Could care less about the push button start. Thieves will always figure out how to steal something if they really want it, key or not. Its less likely for your average thief to steal using tech than just shoving a screw driver in the ignition or crossing some wires imo. I am glad that they will still have the turn-key option for the more conservative crowd.

It is entirely possible with Toyota that the colors available without moonroof could change from year to year.

Anyone know if the Platinum 4x4 comes with the basic skid plates under the engine and fuel tank? Haven't found one to see in person yet so thanks for any info.

Mine came with the skid plate and 38 gallon tank. Not sure if you can get a smaller tank. These come with the tow package so they use the 38 gallon tank. I like it because I don't have to fill up quite as much. It is big though. And I am sure that when full it adds a couple hundred pounds of weight.

Cool. White is what I want so maybe I can find one. My plan is to start with a platinum and mod it to look like a pro. I want the toys of the platinum and I don’t care for the hood scoop of the pro. I’ve had many a moonroof and while they seam cool...I never use them!

I didn't think I would use my moon roof much.

However, rolling all windows down, plus the rear window and the moon roof gives me the Jeep like feeling I want in spring and fall.

Thanks, wonder why they would skid plate protect the engine but not the tank. 38 gallons gasoline is going to weigh 240 lbs approximately. Platinum seems like a good trim to consider.

See #12 above. Inventory managers have a contact at the San Antonio production plant to reach out and request specific order. Not widely publicized since their primary goal of course is to clear current inventory off their lots. I did not want m/r, tubes or OEM liner (preferred line-x). The SA contact advises production date in advance, and VIN the day truck comes off the line. Purchaser only needs patience and :spending:to wait that out. If your dealership refuses, try another across town. Well worth my wait:thumbsup:

My sister works for Toyota Corp in Plano. I had a certificate to purchase at a set price. Went into my local dealership and told them what I wanted. The cert specified that purchase must be done from dealer stock, but they were nice enough to order specifically what I wanted from their allocation so it would be in their inventory.
