Has anyone had problems getting the plastic oil filter cartridge out after draining the oil, have you switched to the alluminum ones and are they better?

Do you mean the plastic cap off? I didn't have an issue getting it off the truck however I didn't have it lined up right in the tool and that was a pita to get the cap out of the tool. I have seen on here people have had them crack on them. To avoid this I did just purchase the Aluminum one off Amazon and it should be here on wednesday.

Also Welcome! What part of Oregon are you in? We have had a lot of new Oregon members the last couple weeks.

Torque spec is 18 ft Lbs. if you don’t exceed this it shouldn’t be a problem.

I had to use a breaker bar to take the cap out. The mechanic at the dealer wayyyy over torqued it.

No reason to consider it, buy it. This will save you $ when you don't have to have your car towed to the dealer when you break the tabs off, and crack the plastic one and have no way to get it off. Ask me how I know.

I just did the first oil change in my wife's GX 460 and it took a breaker bar and everything i had to get it off. The tool is stuck on it. It is a part of the car now. I think they torqued it to 300 foot pounds.

They are so cheap it’s a no brainer. Mine is waiting in my garage patiently for my next oil change.

Any idea what the part number is or exact name of the housing is. Been thinking of the metal housing since I just had my last free oil change done at the dealer and back to doing it myself. Already have the oil drain valve and hose. just need this housing and ill be GTG

Just make sure you guys switch over the perforated filter tube. The one it comes with is to short.

This is why I REFUSE to let the dealer and the oil change bone heads touch my truck. 18 ft lbs is to hard for those idiots.

With that said I’m not completely sold on the aluminum model. When I threaded mine up it didn’t seem to seat as well. It probably is just fine but it didn’t feel right to me.

It’s easy. The aluminum canister has a shorter tube built for a shorter filter. Its the only difference and why when you order it, it says this will not fit your vehicle. Just have to carefully bend a couple tabs then push and twist the tube out. Then just reverse order. It will make sense when you have it in hand.

Just ordered the housing and a oil filter wrench. Should have everything to do the oil soon. Anyone know how to reset the paint due warning on the dash. I read it somewhere here but as much time as I spend on this forum, I can't recall which thread.

Yes. With the key in the on position put it on trip A, turn the key off then hold down the trip odometer button and turn the key back on, hold it down until the little dashes count down.

Thanks everyone for the imput, I’ll probably take it somewhere next oil change and convert to alluminum sounds like they are better. I broke a couple plastic teeth off of mine before I gave up on it.
