I’m looking at a 2020 5.7 v8, it has 44000 miles on it and was services pretty regularly, except for one gap in the carfax where it looks like the old owner went 14000 miles with no oil change, then he went 10000, other than that though it was done every 5000. Would you guys avoid this truck?

Synthetic can also be done every 10k or so. I always did mine every 5k regardless

What about the one time where he went 14000? Is that not a little excessive?

10k is the standard interval on the 2020. Check for an oil leaks, any premature rust. With all the flooding lately in various parts of the country, check for signs of flooding in the engine bay and floor boards. Otherwise if a good price, go for it!

Ok, the only thing that I would be worried about would be that affecting the longevity of the motor, if it was run on dirty oil for 4000 miles (the time he went 14000) could that damage the motor long term? I just want my engine to last well into 200000 like it should

I wouldn't rule it out because of that, not at all a deal breaker. The fact that you see regular service, frankly infers to me the owner was diligent and took care of it.

The oil can't really be thought of as good from 0-10000 miles and suddenly bad from 10000-14000. There's no real way to know what actually happened, it's entirely possible that it was serviced but the documentation didn't to through, or the owner decided to do the service themselves on that one occasion.

I'd still consider it if it's a good deal. Not a dealbreaker.

The only reason I don’t think he did it off the books is because he seemed to take it to the dealer for all the maintenance otherwise, and this is the second owner. This one seemed to pish off maintenance a little more than the last one

As long as the engine still has a chance of lasting and being dependable that’s all I care about. That’s the only reason I’m a fan of Toyotas and I want this one to last as long as possible. I’m not super mechanically inclined but obviously I have common sense and know that oil changes are important. So is it possible that running dirty oil for a few thousand miles could affect that longevity that toyota engines are known for?

Other than that the service records are clean and the truck seems to run like a top
