I am told I need to change the oil at 10K/1yr.

I deal with air cooled engines in which we note a large build up of metal particulates in the oil during the break-in period so I could have this wrong, trying to impose that knowledge onto the Tundra engine.

So, this interval seems long to me. Toyota reps say "there is no break-in period" as in, the engine does not develop particulates in the first thousand miles, or the engine is broken in at the factory (I doubt that).

Maybe they are different from engines I am most familiar with.

I am friends with a Tribologist (studies oil analysis, his business deals with diagnosing and preventing engine failures by looking at oil). He says, regarding Toyota's claim "That's a pile of bull".

So I am thinking of changing my oil not at 10000mi but at...maybe 1000mi for the first one.

Think it the right thing? Or of no practical benefit?

1000 miles is okay, then ever 5,000 to 7,000 miles is good.

I just did my first change at 1k miles. I am willing to baby my 50k investment ha! Why risk it? As others have said, oil is cheap compared to the engine
