I was thinking of putting the TRD skid plate on my truck but was curious how dealer would do oil change. I know there is a trap door but is that for filter or drain plug or both. It looks like it’s a pain putting the skid plate up and I’d hate for the dealer to fake the oil change on me or get oil all over the inside of it. Just curious

If your dealer is smart, they’ll take the little door off to change your filter.

If they’re like my dealer, they’ll take the whole skid plate off...I don’t take my truck there anymore

I just installed min. The door is for the filter. The skid plate has a cutout where the drain plug is and is easily accessible without removing the skid plate.

trap door is for filter and it is a life saver. I had to take this plate down for other reasons and it is insane trying to put it back on by yourself.
Drain plug sits just off to the side.

Once you get the skid pan hung on the front you can hold it up with one hand and start the bolts with a socket and extension

Getting everything lined up on the front is the only problem i have. If I was using the dealer for oil changes I would not waste my money on a skid with trap door.

Probably hit or miss. You might go one time and they might take the whole plate off and the next time they might just use the little door. I used to have a Sierra and I put a fumoto valve on it. We were going on a trip and I didn’t have time to change the oil so I took it and had them do it. Instead of just opening the valve they completely took the fumoto off and when they put it back on they put it on opposite of what I had it. I didn’t take it back there again.

Not sure what the problem is here. Sure it’s kind of a pain in the ass but you definitely don’t need to remove the skid plate. Here’s how you do it everyone…
The new filter will come with a plastic nipple. Use that and a cut piece of garden hose or whatever works, probably 8” long or so. Pull the 3/8 square plug out of the bottom of the filter housing. Plug the nipple in and drain it through the hole in the skid plate to a pan. Pull nipple out and put a funnel in the hole of the skid plate to catch the rest when u remove the filter completely.
