Hoping I posted this in the right place! Husband and I are heading out to camp in Coyote Flat outside of Bishop, CA - the weather forecast shows rain, light snow that shouldn't stick, etc. We are prepared for self-recovery, but I like to have a backup in case we are in a particularly hairy situation. :annoyed:

Does anyone know of a good Offroad Recovery service near the area? We need one that will accept a text message, as we likely will not have service other than our Garmin inReach Explorer+.

I found one in Rancho Cucamonga called Rhino Towing & Offroad Recovery; they have good reviews and accept a text message, and he said driving up to Coyote Flat wouldn't be a problem, but was hoping to find another one that's closer or someone has used before!

Try to keep track of where you do have signal along the trails so that you can, if needed, walk back to that location to get a call out. Make sure you know how to drop a pin and send it out.

Good info here, thanks everyone for the info! FWIW I will be in Mammoth in a couple weeks (19th-24th), fishing at Crowley most days.

We just got back on Saturday! We went out to Coyote Flat on Friday. Got snow on Saturday morning, and decided to head down because the weather was taking a turn for the worse. Stayed at Alabama Hills Saturday night :) Very different types of camping haha! I'm not used to camp grounds!!

Looks like Bishop will have to get on the back burner. Supposed to be a good storm heading into the Sierras this weekend.

You think Bishop will be that bad? Or are you going up into the mountains?

I went up to coyote flat last week as well. Had to stop twice due to transmission temp warnings though. Wondering if you experienced the same?

Bishop might be ok, but you never know. We were going to stay in Bishop and push further north into Bridgeport and east of into Bodie. Tioga is already closed so we would have to travel back down around Ridgecrest to get home.

I did, unfortunately. (see post above)

Looking into installing a cooler, at this time...warranty be damned....$1800 for parts and install. I am not about to be stranded in the middle of the wilderness haha

I think it's unlikely that Bishop will be too bad but you know how the weather goes! Haha.

They closed Tioga the day I left Coyote Flat (last Friday)! Must have been hit pretty hard.
