Curious, I believe my spare is the factory wheel size; however, I have 35’s on the hubs.

If I were to get a flat, could I safely drive a 4x4 with an irregular sized wheel up to 100 miles, not considering tire wear but damage to the front end.

Also, are you able to fit a 35” spare under the bed in the spare tire spot?

    Thanks.

i dont think you would do any long term harm. a spare to get you to the nearest rest stop or shop would be ok.

i think you can fit a full sized 35" spare under the bed. I believe you can also fit an aired down 37". but overall, youd be ok

You want to put the off-sized tire in the front not the rear. So if you're replacing a rear tire, move a good one from the front to the rear then the spare to the front.

I’ve seen a thread on here that showed 35’s up under the truck. I think they had to bend or cut the tabs, but it was there and looked pretty tight. As far as driving like that with such a difference could possibly cause issues. I’m running 295/70/18 and bumped my spare up to a 275/70/18 it’s not exact but it’s closer than the factory spare. Only reason I didn’t go full 295 for the spare was the fact that we didn’t know if it would clear the upper control arm in the front.

I have a 35x12.50 spare under the bed - I had the remove the guides but the tire fits fine with ToyTec shackles (it may not have fit with Coachbuilder shackles). The tire is mounted to a matching wheel so I know it will clear the UCAs. @MAGDADDY brings up a good point - if you are running stock wheels (+60 offset) without spacers then you may have issues with a 12.5" wide tire clearing the UCAs.

You shouldn't have any problems as long as you don't put it in 4 wheel drive.it could cause the transfer case to bind the gears.like someone else said, I wouldn't drive it like that very long

    Thanks everyone!

Could the spare rim have a different offset that may not clear the UCA’s with a 35 and my best bet would be to use a stock matching rim with a 35? The truck currently has the 17” stock rock warrior wheels with 35’s. I don’t believe there are spacers but I’ll know next week when I take ownership.

    thanks again for everyone’s help!

Since the wheels are OEM, it seems unlikely that the offset of the spare would be different (+60). Are the tires on the Rock Warriors 35x12.50? If they are, there is a chance that wheel spacers are already installed. I have heard of some running 12.5" tires on stock wheels with no spacers but the tire is really close to the UCA. If you do any off-road driving at all you will want a little more space between the tire and UCA so if there are no spacers installer then it is pretty inexpensive to add them.

if you run 35"s best to have matching spare and that includes the rim with proper offset. You can always deflate the spare a bit since most likely you have air on board and fit it underneath the bed.

I believe they are 35x12.5”. I’ll have to report back next week after I give the truck a run down and check for spacers. Thanks!

    ^^this.

I’m trying to come up with a solution as well. I need the lift of the CB +3 shackle but can’t get my 35x12.5 spare to fit. I’ve got a little room forward. I’m thinking of fabing some brackets and a spacer to mount it at a slight downward angle to the front of the truck.

I believe that's a no go with the CB shackles.

I’m thinking with some kind of plate mounted between the spare and the bottom of the bed that I could tighten the tire forward and with a little tilt and it would clear.
Seems to be enough room before contacting the diff and I would only need to slightly relocate the DD resonator.

I put a 285/75/18 Terra Grappler G2 (used) in the stock location. I think overall diameter is 34.84in. Thought this would be a great spare for my 35x12.5x18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I also have the Coachbuilder +3 shackles. Had my tire shop air hammer out the stock tire guides, than I painted it with black Rustoleum spray paint. Here are some pics.

@shdwkeeper So that’s on the stock spare rim? Will it fit if you don’t have shackles? I plan on putting the same size tires on with Ray10s, but if I don’t have to buy a full size spare that’s a win.

YES, stock spare rim. You will have more room without these shackles, as these shackles are pretty beefy.

At what size do you need to remove the guides? Would a 275/70R18 fit without removal of the guides?

i kept my 295/70/18 toyo AT2 as spare. I run 35 K02 all 4 corners and the height is almost identical. the 35 are slightly wider which doesn't matter really for a spare.
I did cut the guides and run the same aftermarket rim.

I had a tire shop air hammer my guides off as shown in previous pictures and I painted it with black paint. Not that hard if you have right tools.

Yes, you just need to guide the spare up and to the left as you raise it if memory serves correct.
    Especially with Coachbuilder Shackles.
Fits like a glove up there.

I have a matching wheel and tire underneath. 35x12.5 17. Coachbuilder shackles as well. I have no issues with rubbing or fitment. Had to grind off the factory guides as well as a couple small pieces on the part that holds the wheel up there. Been about 25k miles now no issues.

Falcon Leveling System, Coachbuilder +1s, RCI Skid Plates
You want your drive wheels to be as close to the same diameter as possible especially with the electronic limited slip business. So you don’t induce too much binding in the differential.
Of course if you are using 4wd you’ll have the same issue by putting it on the front.

OK...I would have thought it would throw the steering into turmoil. I'll at least remember to turn TC and everything else off if that scenario presents itself.

TRD sway bar, airbag kit, Diamondback HD, LED headlights, Pedal Commander, Bilsteins 6112's up front with shims (2.5 inch lift), 5160s in the rear with CB +2 shackles (1.5 inch lift), Falken Wildpeak AT3W 285/75/18, TRD Pro Grill insert, MattGecko under hood and bed light kit,
So I have 285/75/18 tires (34.8" tire) on stock TRD rims and been looking at getting that same tire size on my spare rim. I dropped my spare tire and took some measurements.

Coachbuilder shackle to shackle is only 33 inches
Back of truck (bumper/license plate area) to resonator location for BA midpipe is 33 inches

How have y'all been able to get a larger tire to fit? I don't want to bite the bullet and mount a brand new tire on my spare rim just to find it not be able to fit anymore?
