Been with the Mrs 10 yrs now ever since we been together her tradition with her kids has been a real tree, oldest has left has his own house, youngest is living out of town for school, middle boy lives with us and doesn't care for what we get, as a kid growing up and far back as I can remember, my parents had a fake tree and we had til my late teens, then we went to real, now just my mother n sister n 2 boys have a fake tree, SO, that being said, the Mrs now wants a fake pre-lit tree!!! WTF?!?! She's tired of paying lots of money, having to water, putting on taking off lites, PLUS she likes the tree being flocked, last year was over $285, now she wants a pre-lit fake tree......

What say you all??? Real or Fake???

Ours is fake. Did the real thing for a few years but always turned into a mess. Then pay for disposal.

We purchased our tree cheap on one of the after Christmas sales for 50.00 at Walmart.

Been cutting down our real tree from a farm for 19 years now! Started as wife and myself, now it's wife and 2 daughters! Family tradition! Yes needles suck, putting lights on is tedious, watering is a pain, but it's the holidays...can't get the memories with the kids back. Heading out in the next week or so weather permitting to cut down and bring home in the back of the MGM 2018 CrewMax!

    $285!? I'd get a fake one too.

I guess that's a perk of living in PA a 5 minute drive and $30 gets me an 8ft Fraser Fir.

Good point! Shipping to TX isn’t cheap. CO is pretty inexpensive for tree cutting.
Having a nice real tree that you cut down is pretty cool, just not for us.

If you live in a state where you have access to cutting your own natural real tree then go for it. Fresh cut trees lose very few needles and can make for an interesting outing at times. The farm trees sold at grocery store/Xmas tree lots dry out super fast. Many have been harvested up to two weeks prior to getting to their destination. Here in Aurora you can leave your used tree at curbside and it will get recycled. Buy a live tree and replant it in your yard if you are against killing trees. Fake is fake to me...although can be quite practical depending where you live. Dealing with a fresh tree once a year isn't the end of the world. Where is the "real" Christmas Spirit?

Go fake for safety. My Bro-In-Law is Chief of fire department here, they do yearly demos, bring your real tree and see how quick it goes up despite your efforts to keep it fresh.

Yep! Was raised in western Oregon surrounded by 10 bazillion Douglas fir trees. Here in Colorado you have a wide variety of Spruces. Win win..

It would be cool to see a side by side comparison of both style trees on fire.

I've seen those demos and almost always used with dried out store bought trees improperly cared for used with improper lighting and place near a fire place. This will be my 62nd year of life with a real tree and no house has burned down yet.

You can replant a nursery bought tree like I was referring to since some folks don't like wasting a perfectly good tree by cutting it

Real for sure. Ours often look like Charlie Brown specials when we cut them ourselves, as Northern New Mexico doesn't produce the fullest "small" pines.

I understand, bet you don't let kids run around the house with lighters.

We never had a fire back when we used real trees but seeing how fast one goes up, makes one think.

Lol. I was referring to a Clark Grizwold moment.

That might work for some. Nothing wrong with cutting down trees, recycle and make into yard mulch.

Up until about 3 years ago, ive always had a real tree. The smell and presence of a real tree to me makes it feel more like Christmas. We bought a fake pre lit and well we dont have to water and vacuum dead needles off the floor. So i buy alot of Pine Febreeze air freshener and candles

We always had a live one growing up as well. Never an issue, always a fresh tree and daily watering two times.

Very stunning indeed. But the pine trees don't start looking good until they are far too big for the house. Combine that with the large number of forest fires that we have had roll through in the last 20 years, and you have to drive pretty far from where I am to get a "full" tree small enough to fit in a house.
