I am very interested in purchasing this but had a few questions. Does this plug an play also allow DVDs to be played on the factory head unit? I know the purpose is to switch between front and rear camera but was curious if this also allows DVDs to be played? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your interest and your question, @SapperTRDPro. The FRAC harness provides Front/Rear Anytime Cam selection and VIM enable for factory Nav functions while in motion. It does not provide for any AV functions.

This is exactly what I want to do, the FRAC harness as well has the AV mirroring at once and it looks like you have definitely considered selling this but if you don't mind me asking, what were some of the problems/reasons why you decided not to offer the AV feature?

So I found your initial posting referring to the AV addition titled "
    COMPLETED!! 2016 CrewMax - FRAC-AV; Front/Rear Anytime Cams and Audio/Video"

and from what it looks like, it looks like you stopped with the AV mod and solely focused on prefecting the FRAC system which many before have mentioned was a success. (Took a while to read thru all 22 pages but worth it) so i guess my question is, how do I add in the AV, I got the grasp of installing the FRAC but wasn't able to see your YouTube videos showing the FRAC-AV cuz they may have been deleted. Do you by chance sell this set up or would you suggest that I just buy the FRAC and then the lighting cable/HDMI cord/ converter and seeing how it goes into the FRAC? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to see if I can knock out two birds with one stone by buying your FRAC and still easily setting up the mirroring option.

From the start of your thread, it looks way more simple than this video https://youtu.be/UH0yhrRWWOo which involves splicing factory wires and what not which I do not want to do, so maybe the mod you had going doesn't involve that.

As indicated, I did figure out the way to get AV mirroring working, and it was a lot simpler to install, than the video you referenced. It worked OK, although I wasn't happy with the HU display resolution. It also added a lot of extra build time and cost to the harness. So when I started building harnesses for sale, I decided that it was not something I wanted to include. I decided that If I'm going to watch something, I'll just view it directly from my iPad or phone and get a better picture.

If AV is something you really want, there are solutions and methods available online as you found. However, the FRAC harness, as sold, does not include any AV capability or any provisions for connecting HDMI or lightning cables. I do not recommend or support modifying the FRAC harness for an AV function. If it is done, it's at your own risk.

Thank you for your quick response, and that makes sense as to why you stopped that mod. And I totally agree and I won't be messing with the FRAC harness risking the chance of ruining it and or factory parts all for a mirroring option.

@TundraTex or anyone running this kit, I'm currently about to button everything up, all connections are complete and all I have left is to Mount the camera in a permanent spot.

Question is, right now my camera selection switch seems to be the only thing working/turning on each camera or back to the home screen when switched to the middle. Now this is perfect and working as expected but what exactly does the VIM switch do? Is this switch only going to factor in when the truck starts to move down the road? I put the truck in reverse the rear works fine, and while in drive I can switch to either camera just fine, but all while the VIM switch doesn't seem to change anything.

Probably thinking way too hard about this but thanks for any help:thumbsup:

Easiest way to check if the VIM is working is to go to maps and try to input a destination or address while driving. If it is greyed out, flip the switch, mine has about a 2 second delay, then the destination input becomes available. You will also be able to access menu settings that typically require the truck to be stationary

The VIM (vehicle in motion) don't have nothing to do with cameras but it will help to deactivate the security future that won't let you do anything or limited use of the head unit while your vehicle is moving, for example if you are in the road you can't input any address in your GPS until your vehicle is stopped, some apps like Pandora or iheartradio are limited to use too, but the VIM switch give you full access to the headunit while your truck is moving

I already have mine through, but I’m curious about the connectors. Are those just the ends and require soldering to reattach? When I search “phono connector” i get images of standard RCA ends and some that look a little different (non soldering)

I have the camera that runs the power along the phono cable, so there are 3 wires... signal (+), signal (-) and 12v (+) In the end, since mine had a disconnect plug at the camera end, I just cit the wire, passed it through the firewall, soldered it back together and used heat shrink...

Wait, so you can just leave it on all the time? @TundraTex, what's the point of having a switch then?

I understand it can be left on all the time, and I'm sure I'm going to forget and leave it on a few times, but like @Tundra Fan stated, the reason for the switch is because when it's left on, the truck thinks it's not moving and supposedly won't update the map. But if what you're saying is true that the map does update, I would just leave the switch on and not even mount it... maybe just stuff it behind the radio. Does anyone know if there are any drawbacks to just leaving the switch on? @TundraTex?
