Hello all, I am Mr. Badwrench, and my name suits me quite well.

I crossed the battery leads on my truck today. Not my Tundra though, my Tacoma. It's an '03 limited 4X4 V6.

My battery died two weeks ago, and I purchased one today. I don't know what the hell I was thinking, I bought the wrong battery (reversed leads), and my eyes aren't the best and that's my story and I'm sticking to it... Now my truck won't even crank. I have no power to ANYTHING.

Is there a main fuse for this, possibly a fuseable link? It was approaching dusk when I did this, so I really can't trace out the wiring as well as I would like to.

I was in a hurry guys, cut me some slack..

take the battery to the auto parts store that you prefer and have them check the battery and do a load test on battery

OP your username is quite fitting at the moment.

I wouldn't sweat it, that's why there are fuses. I would start by checking them. Do you know how?

Toyota switches the posts so we need to buy special batteries, so I vote blame them.

yeah, yeah... fits like a glove. Yeah, I will manage testing my fuses, it is just too dark to tear into it. Anybody else done this? I am really sweating this one.

I would call AAA and have them come out to check to see if it’s really the battery. They have that battery tester and OBDII reader on their vehicles. However, you’ll need to tell them that you need them to send out the mechanic’s truck, because you don’t know what the problem is.

    Good luck!

#34 is what I am after, apparently. Thank you Migraine, I do appreciate this. I have rebuilt engines, drive trains... transmissions, xfer cases, front and rear ends and have restored Scouts, Blazers and CJ's. But I have never screwed anything up like this, nothing so simple as a battery replacement! At least nothing I couldn't fix. I hope this is just a fuse! I am getting old... my mind isn't what it was

For a Honda not a Toyota, but same situation.

    Watch the whole video first.

Replace the fuse though, don't twist it to make contact. Not even as a test.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
My pops and I did this on an old Ford years ago. In that particular case, the battery was fine. Starter solenoid popped and smoked, and one of the fusible links blew.

As soon as I started reading your post, the first thing I thought was the fusible links. I'd certainly check there first. If that doesn't work, maybe check the starter solenoid.

Just an update on this... Had to replace a handful of fuses and clear my check engine light, but I got it running again. The ECM is fine, and the check engine light spit out about 30 some codes... if I counted correctly. The truck smoked like crazy for about five minutes after I started it, probably because I desperately tried turning the key forward about a dozen times after realizing what I had done (could hear the fuel pump buzzing).

All fixed, as far as I can tell. Wish me luck though, I hope that is all I screwed up. Thank you, all who responded, for you input.
