    Hello to all,
I'm one of the lurkers at this point, and do not have a Tundra at this time. I am a pro-Toyota guy and owned may over the years including a 1980 SR5 pickup, an '88 Supra with great luck!
And I don't mind wrenching - just did Timing belt/ idlers, water pump and several other service jobs on my daughters 99 4Runner to help her out.
I was looking for a first gen Tundra 6 years ago when looking for a new truck to pull our 20' travel trailer (4,000 lbs) and after 2 years of Price gouging sellers and dealerships I bought a new Ram 1500 hemi 4x4 with a warranty.

I'm back again looking for a Tundra and trying to learn more about the newer generations and not limit myself to 1st gen only... So I'm looking for comparo's between the various generations to gain some insight into what will break, what to look for when buying, etc. But haven't seen one here.

Apologies if I just didn't search deep enough, looking forward to the combined experience here and really hope to find the right truck to pursue with your help!

Welcome from the wet side of WA. Lots of info on here. You'll find there's not a lot of difference mechanically between the "Gen 2" and the "Gen 3" - they are the same engine/transmission/frame/suspension/etc. Others on here have a lot more experience on things like towing, etc.
Grab a drink, and browse through the various sub-forums. Use the search bar in the upper right. You'll find lots of info on your questions. And post up specific questions if you don't find what you are looking for. :pccoffee:

Me, personally, I had 298k on my 2008 without any drama when I traded it in. On the Gen 2 trucks, the Air Induction Pump seems to be a fairly common gremlin that is expensive to get fixed (I had it happen around 200k miles) - Toyota did extend the warranty on it (not enough for it to help me), and you can also research an alternative solution produced by Hewitt Tech. Cam Tower leaks are something others post on here, though I never noticed it on my 2008 (never looked that hard either - it never lost oil and I did 10k changes the entire life of the truck). You'll find a whole debate on external transmission coolers that were deleted with the most recent couple of model years (2018 or 2019 and newer). The 2016 model year added an option for a 38-gallon fuel tank, which makes your wallet hurt a little more at each fill up, but does extend your range (when you account for the notoriously large 6-gallon reserve that Toyota builds into the Tundra fuel tank, that 38-gal tank give you a little more than 50% more useable volume before the gage says "FILL!"). You'll find some differences in how the back seat in the larger cab folds between the three generations - my brother's 2005 he can flip the back down or the seat up. On the 2007-2013, the Crewmax rear seat back folds down (and the seats can slide forward/back). On the 2014+ Crewmax, the bottom of the seat folds up and the back angle is fixed. Double-cabs for 2007+ all have the same seat setup (bottom folds up), but there is a mod you can do to make the back flip down (though there isn't much room back there to use).

Thanx to you all, especially RainMan for the generation comparison to help me get started... I go thru periods of time when I prowl around most forums and sometimes get caught up with other stuff that life throws my way! I'm only 20K miles into the 2017 Ram Hemi 4x I bought because I mostly ride my motorcycle so I hope to be able to do okay on the value when I resell it, which I would like to use on personalizing whatever model Tundra I end up with. I'm also planning to replace a small travel trailer I sold with another one in the future and hope to make the Tundra a capable tow'er
Looking forward to more time with you all in the future for sure! ;)
