    well. shit.

the past few days I’ve been removing the xfaktr dual battery setup. back down to a single battery.

after reconnecting everything, there is no power. no key chime. no lights on the dash. nothing. weirdly, the squadron and piaa fogs, which are connected to the Switch-Pros, are dimly flickering.

volt meter on the battery shows 13.5 ish. i have checked every fuse (in the engine bay and under the dash). none of them are blown.

this is not what i need right now.

any ideas would be most helpful.

Have you checked the negative battery cable where it connects to the engine ?

Measure the voltage between the lead positive battery post and a battery power fuse like #2 horn or #10 stop.

Also measure between the negative battery post and the engine block.

    Report your readings.

Maybe measure from positive battery post to the 10A ign fuse again with the key on.

    arg. fml.

picked up new main fuse block from dealer earlier this afternoon. replaced and reconnected everything. still nothing.

battery neg to pos on main fuse reads 14.5ish.

    battery to engine is 0.

battery neg to horn fuse is 0. same reading if key is off or turned to on.

battery neg to any fuse at the block connected to main fuse link is 0. same with key off or turn to on.

peeking in main fuse window with flash light and everything looks fine. can’t pull main fuse again as it just started raining.

something appears to be very wrong.

If battery positive to engine is zero, it's a ground issue.

If it's 15 volts to battery + to the engine block (and the engine is not running) you've got a battery issue. Put some load on the battery by attaching something external for a while - anything to get the battery to drain, then test again. There could be a bubble in the battery that is giving a false voltage reading.

I don't think the ECU will start the Tundra if the battery voltage is at 15.

Alternatively, if you have another battery consider swapping it.

Test the battery before you put it on. Unless it just came off another vehicle, it will be less than 13 volts. If it isn't you either have a bad battery again or a bad tester.

neither of the batteries should be bad as they've both been in the truck. things have been running fine. they've been out of the truck and sitting in the garage for about a week. maybe i'll stick them on the trickle charger while i wait for another fuse link.

Leave them off the charger. Just test the one you are going to put in next - what is the voltage?

You have a problem there. A battery that has been out of the truck sitting shouldn’t be reading over 15 volts. It’s either your tester or the battery.

Can you load the battery for a while? Anything to draw from it - a 12v light bulb is fine. Within 30 minutes of the draw it should drop down into the 12v range.

I would not recommend booking up a battery to the truck that is putting out an unloaded voltage of 15.7 v.

not sure why they read so high. not sure if i have another volt meter. maybe.

i'll see what i can throw together to put a load on them.

    thanks for the help

Another option is bring the batteries over to the local parts store - Pep Boys, Autozone or whatever you have around there. They usually do battery load tests for free. That will test it and load the battery with ease.

What type of battery is it?

Resting voltage of a standard full battery is around 12.7. Resting voltage of a full AGM is usually closer to 13.2.

both batteries are odyssey 34r pc1500.

so, the strip has been connected for over an hour. i just took it off and the battery is reading 16.6. i'm going to run it over to the parts store and have them put a tester on it.

the truck does have an hkb booster. the secondary battery had been connected to the solar system which would send a trickle charge to both batteries when the truck was not running. now, i'm wondering if the combination of the two has overcharged the batteries. i will be taking the booster out.

after a quick search, it doesn't sound like an overcharged agm is savable but, maybe? hopefully?

16.6 volts on an AGM battery is not typical. There are times where bubbles in the battery cause voltage spikes, but that's usually not after running a load.

Personally, if I had an Odyssey battery that was showing 16.6 volts when disconnected I would be looking if I still had warranty.

i broke down last night and bought a fluke meter. should be here tomorrow with another new fuse link. i'll check the batteries with the fluke and see if the results are any different. after that, i'll run the batteries over to 4WP where i bought them and see what they say.
