Been a Chevy guy for a while but I'm torn between sticking with what I know or branching out towards a tundra. I know it's going to be hard on here but no biased opinions lol real facts

I came out of a 2015 LTZ Z71 with the 6.2 L Eco-Tec. The 8 speed tranny started giving me problems around 30K miles. The dealership solution was New Magic tranny fluid. LOL It was obviously a torque converter problem... the truck would shake like you were going over speed bumps on acceleration from a stop and again in 4th and 5th gear. I let them put the magic fluid in there and sold the truck a couple of weeks later. That was my 7th consecutive Chevy truck... so I was committed, to an extent. The 2019 loaner they gave me to drive for a couple of days that purposely dies at every stop was another reason why I went to Toyota. Never looked back.

As a auto body owner I can tell you this if your anywhere near a salt belt a Chevy will be effected by rust 10 fold compared to the toyo in the past 12 years I can honestly say I’ve never had to do a rust repair job on a tundra, the Chevy on the other hand I do either rocker panel/cab corners or bedside arches and bed cross rails at least one a month I just did bedside arches on a 14 Silverado last week. That’s just crazy a 5 year old rig rusting out like that
As for as the powertrain toyo reputation speaks for itself
    That’s my 2 pennies

I came from Gm trucks. 14’ Sierra slt and a 17’ Colorado. Tundra has been reliable so far in first year of ownership. Gm doesn’t make a good truck anymore imo. And more importantly they don’t care about their customers imo. My experience with those 2 previous Gm trucks turned me off on their trucks. Both were always in the shop. I’m done. Tundra lacks some nice features at least in my 15 trd sr5 crewmax. Haven’t had one issue whatsoever. Best choice I ever made. And it pains me to say Gm is junk. But that was my experience. And I have had some great Gm trucks. But they have lost their way with these current trucks. Will never buy again from them.

Very simple. Test drive both (a lot if possible). Figure out which is more comfortable. Look at capacity and comfort features. Then decide which you like best.

If I weren't a Toyota guy I would be a Chevy guy. That said, I have had the same Toyota since 08 and my best friend has gone through 4 or 5 Chevys in that time. My brother is a Chevy guy too and admits my truck rides better. His truck has had a few more problems than mine and has way less mileage, he has an 06 Sierra.

Just hang around the different forums for a couple weeks. Itll be very obvious which truck you should go with.

Also a Chevy guy, daily is 2500 Z71 Diesel. Got a used Tundra as 3rd vehicle and for new driver/teen son to drive. Absolutely love it, can't say enough about it. Wrote a bunch about it in build below.

Was a Silverado guy for a long time. The last one only had 125K on it and the repairs just kept getting more expensive. My mechanic, who was a Silverado guy also, recommended that I get rid of it because the price of repairs was going to continue to go up. My son has had a Tundra for many years and loves it. I did my research and the Tundra came out on top. My Tundra doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles of the other brands but I don’t need them. I made the right decision and that gets reinforced even more every day.

Ditto this, had an 03 GMC that I loved so much I gave it a new tranny at 185k or so. Should have dumped it then because other things kept failing. Oil pump, water pump, timing gears, plugs and wires, Lifter rattle started, the same mechanic who did the transmission told me just to get a new truck. Hated it but when you're mechanic is tired of taking your money, it's time to pull the trigger.
I keep reading that Tundras are just broken in good at 200k so the way i look at it, I bought my last truck. (unless the Wife keeps up about the AC and I have to get a Limited or better with dual air controls)

Yeah, and insanely athletic. She could jump over my 6' fence. Found that one out one day when I left her in the back yard while I went to go run an errand. As soon as I pulled out of the driveway and started down the road, here she came hauling ass after me.

No bias: Toyota invented Total Quality Management and Lean Production. There’s simply no reason to chance it with one of the other four different manufacturers of half ton trucks.

Additional non-bias: look at the histogram about halfway down the page:

    https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2019-us-vehicle-dependability-studyvds

Yes, the Tundra is a bit of a dinosaur technologically and the payload capacity is a bit weak. Neither of those “issues” has ever left me stuck on the side road while towing a 5000 pound trailer.
