Hello. I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra SR5 four-wheel-drive that will not accelerate when put into gear. It idles but that is all. When pushing the gas pedal no acceleration. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Does it rev at all while in gear? Does it rev in N or D? Is anything under the hood near the throttle body look awry (disconnected/damaged wires)? I'm not sure it this is drive-by-wire, but is there a throttle cable and is it damaged?

I’m making the assumption that the engine will rev normally when the pedal is depressed in neutral. Is that correct?

Does the gear indicator show the correct gear when the shifter is moved?

    Any check engine light on?

If the engine won't rev, it could be the throttle position sensor. I had that happen on a previous pickup. It would start and idle fine, but when you put it in gear and tried to accelerate, it stayed at idle. I took the TPS off, sprayed it out with contact cleaner (DeOxit F5), and it worked. I replaced it anyway, but the cleaner did seem to fix it.

Another possibility, one that I experienced in a 2002 Ford Sport Trac, is that the cat puked it's guts and filled the exhaust system with debris. The truck behaved as the OP described, would start and idle but would not rev. I had to replace the entire exhaust system.
