I need some help choosing my tires please and thank you. I will be going with 35X12.5R18's for size. The two choice of tires are Nitto Ridge Grapplers or Toyo Open Country AT3. I will mostly be driving highway miles but will be hitting some trails on the weekend. We get decent amounts of snow here in Colorado but most of the time its beautiful out. Please take my poll and give me your thoughts on the two choices. Thanks

I got just got AT3s in same size. Wet and snow performance was the deciding factor for me since I spend a lot of time in Utah mountains

I like my Grapplers over the ATII … don't know much about the 3's but hope they perform better than the 2's in the rain cause I used to hydroplane a little bit with the 2's.

One is severe snow rated. One is not. Your call, my choice would be easy.

Why not the Nitto Exo Grappler?
Nitto Exo Grappler would be a snow rated option if the OP wanted to go Nitto.

Yep, probably a far better option.

At the end of the day, I guess one has to determine which is more important, a cool looking heavy lug tire, or not ending up on your top in the ditch during a winter storm. Risk assessment is a fairly personal choice.

Depends on what you want, if you want a All Terrain tire that is ok off road and in the mud but really good on road and wet then the ATIII is the tire for you, but make NO mistake it is NOT an aggressive hybrid like the Ridge Grappler. The Ridge Grapplers are also amazingly quiet, maybe even quieter than the ATIII and ride amazing on road, but do have their limitations in ice and snow. Personally, I went with the Ridge Grapplers, we only get half a dozen good snow-storms a year in CT where I live, but I am constantly in mud and dirt on back roads hunting and fishing in the Spring and Fall, so the Nittos won out.

Snow rating isn't the number 1 deciding factor but and important one. I want a aggressive looking tire that handles on the road, snow, and trails.

I may be partial since I just spent $2100 for 5 AT3s but looking at the tread pattern they actually have slightly bigger lugs than the RGs

I just went from the Ridge Grapplers to the Toyo AT3. The RG’s did ok but I like the AT3’s much better.,the RG got noisy fast until it was unbearable and had to get them off. At about 50k miles with 4-5/32 tread remaining They were measuring over 72 decibels coasting on interstate.

I have RG now and do like them. I ordered AT3 a few weeks ago (back order). I’m going up in size and weight and price difference sold me.

What is Toyos tread warranty versus Nittos? Isn’t Toyos like 55,000?

Ridge Grappler doesn’t have a tread wear warranty as I recall. Pretty sure the Toyo is 55k.

I stopped watching that video after the guy said he hasn't tested any of those tires in real world situation...
his video sounded more like a click bait with a bunch of random truck/SUV wearing all kind of tires.

Ya. That’s why I went Toyo. Any company willing to do that with an AT (Cooper also does on their ATIII) knows they have a great product.

Only downside far to my Toyo ATIII is tire noise at 45+.

There is a great thread here on the forum for ATIII info.

Yikes....I just assumed they all had some sort of tread wear warranty, I guess not.

Nittos are out for me then.

Next up....Falken Wildpeak AT3W. Snowflake rated, warranty and looks like a local shop can bring them in for me.

Even the EXO Grapplers didn’t have a tread wear warranty. Duratracs don’t either, but I’ve put them through some pretty hard use and routinely get 40-45k out of a set. That’s with a lot of gravel roads.

I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with the Wild Peaks.

I had Ridge Grapplers on my previous Tundra for for about 35k miles and they were meh. I got them not long after release and they looked cool until now every other truck has them. They weren't horrible in rain but not great. I have AT3 on my 4runner and absolutely love them!! I got them back in March right at release and as of now have 8k on them, they are LT load range E. AT3 is 3 peak mountain snow rated.

I parked in the grass at my buddy's house one day after about 3 days of rain, got ready to leave and my RG slipped. I was like hell naw and easing into it as much as possible I couldn't move but refused to put it into 4wd to the point I just started gassing on it and finally said F it and put it in 4wd. My buddy was pretty pissed lol.
