Searched tundras.com and the web, wasn’t able to find many reviews on the Nitro 4.88 gears from people that actually have them.

Who’s got them installed and what are your opinions? I’m seriously considering them, but want your input. Pros and cons?

I’m running 35s, no plans to go to 37s, may throw on a supercharger after my factory warranty is up...

    Flux capacitor!
I have the 4.88 Nitro gears on mine and I love them! I’m ruining 37s so I wanted to get the larger gears. I also had the Auburn LSD installed in the rear since the rear diff was already going to be taken apart. So I only had to pay for the parts and not the labor for LSD. So it made sense for me to the gears and LSD at the same time. You will definitely feel a difference with the 4.88s. Just make sure the shop installing them knows what they are doing.

I wonder if those are pre-sales. Nitro's site doesn't have them released till 3/31/19. I see them for sale on a few different sites.

Lol no worries dude! Those were just general questions, not really nitro specific.

I've only heard good things on nitro's quality. Many shops prefer nitro including sdhq

Wed, is the install date and I hope to have the truck back late Friday. I read the break-in directions, it's gonna take a long time to get back home.:D But I'll report what I can when I get it back.

    Why 5.29 over 4.88 on 35’s?

You wanna choose the gear ratio that brings you back to stock then go the next aggressive (at least) to make up for the weight.

So, if someone running 35s had no plans to go to 37s, 4.88s would get you back to “stock”? Thanks in advance!

And 5.29 if running a larger tire size? Or does added weight also play a roll in this choice?

5.29's are not needed unless running 40's or larger

even with 37's the math with 5.29's doesnt make sense. not needed

4.88s bought from @dirtydeeds best price and support imo. 37s. Supercharger. Did gears before blower going from 35 to 37. Worth it. Would do 5.29s if doing now. Listen to Keith @dirtydeeds

Not only are 5.29’s not needed, but 4.88’s aren’t needed. Stock is fine. And a 5.7 is overkill too, the 4.6 is fine. Or even the 4.0, that’ll move a tundra too;)

Need and want are very close to the same thing. You may not ‘need’ to regear, but trust me, you want to!!

Don’t compare ‘numbers’. Look at whom has tried 4.88vstock. 5.29v4.88

If we haven’t tried both how do we know we don’t like it?

The tundra is different. It’s very sensitive to tire size changes. Go only slightly bigger and it drives a lot different. Downshifting when it shouldn’t. Not holding gears. Etc. that’s the part you see.

If you had a scanner and afr gauge and way to see fuel injection pulse width you would see that the bigger tires cause your truck to switch from closed loop to open loop. And when that happens not only do you downshift but your torque converter unlocks. And you run an afr into the 10’s!!! Instead of in the 14’s. A lot of timing is also pulled. And on the dyno you see a loss of 40hp.

The steeper the gear ratio the longer the tq converter stays locked. The longer it holds gears. The leaner the afr. The more timing you have. The better the truck drives. And the more fun you have.

    Thank you @dirtydeeds

I’ve never regeared a vehicle and this is my first “build.” Love the knowledge bombs that get dropped on here frequently.

I'm getting 4.88s next week from Boss 4x4. Just curious as to what the ball park price range is for installation.
