I have a 2010 tundra crew max. Well taken care of. It has 172,000 miles & my transmission won’t get out of third gear it seems like. The dealership told me I need to replace the whole transmission, costs of $5,000. I’m wanting to know if I should try & have someone rebuild it (if possible) or sell the truck, or replace the transmission. What are your thoughts?

Welcome from Colorado. Try to find a low mileage totalled Tundra tranny. Not easy.

AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
    Welcome!

    From Cleveland, Ohio here

I would take it to a transmission specialist like Aamco.

Won’t hurt to get a specialist to look at it. Heck they might have a simple fix since that’s all they do.

Vince, I was too afraid to try that yesterday. But I’m going to get a second opinion today so I may try it.

You need to have a independent shop ( not a transmission specialist) scan the computer before doing anything. Could be all kinds of reasons other than needing a new transmission.

I say aamco. It just may be a simple fix or maybe freshen up.
