Recently purchased a Certified 2016 Tundra with the 5.7 and have noticed some quirks regarding cold starting the truck in the mornings and then 4 to 5 hours later if I have to run errands during my lunch break at work. Have some questions as to how normal this is with these trucks, this being my first experience with a Toyota vehicle in general I do not want to waste my time taking it into the dealer to only have them say it is normal.

In the morning, the vehicle starts up, idles much higher than previous vehicles I have owned and tends to hunt for an idle between 1400 and 1200 rpm, after about 10 minutes or so it warms up and normalizes. I am thinking this is normal however the next part is what worries me.

4 to 5 hours later after the truck has been sitting, the vehicle starts no problem but the rpm jumps up to 1400 then nosedives down to 600 then back up to around 1200 then it goes through the whole idle high in neutral to warm things up cycle. It seems to do this almost every time, is this normal and just the computer trying to figure things out?

Thanks for the confirmation, I guess its just something I will have to get used to. I was honestly contemplating gong back to the dealer and asking to test driver another one just to figure out if it did the same thing.

My 2016 5.7L does this once or twice a week, and my previous Taco did it often, even in the summer. When it drops to 600~ rpm, it's almost like it's going to die, but then all of a sudden, revs back up. I find it strange, and there's certainly a cause, but I haven't been able to pin it down to anything.
