Just bought a new Tundra. It was a dealer trade from a dealer 150 miles away. During the delivery orientation I looked at the trip log in the navigation system. Top speed recorded was 85 miles per hour. I wonder if this was a one off acceleration or if the truck was driven most of the 150 miles at 85 mph. Should I have refused delivery on the basis the truck had been abused according to Toyota's own guidelines. Interested in what any of you would have done

Maybe the 85pmh was done at the factory when they put the finished truck on the dyno to check all systems. The rear wheels are on rollers. I know they bring the engine up to high rpm to test it .

Very likely the transfer was driven at "near legal" speeds pretty much continuously the entire 150 miles. IMO, you would really have to abuse a vehicle (exceeding normal operating parameters) to cause any long-term problems. Mine had nearly 150 miles on the clock, and no navigation to look up the speed, but I didn't worry...picked the interior color I liked best over a near identical truck.

Look up "Break In" in your owner manual. The manual tells you not to drive at "extremely high speeds": Well, that's subjective, but for me would start about 120+ mph. The other concern might be constant speed operation for long periods, but I think they are talking about hours on end.

Don't worry about it. If you want some entertainment, you could raise the issue with your dealer. Maybe it'll get you a free wash (if you trust them). ;)

What is the break in period for a new Tundra? Thoughts?

During break in i drove my truck calm until it warmed up then i drove it harder than my normal driving. I kinda buy into the break it in by running the hell out of it theory

I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
