    Hi guys,

I've been meaning to join the forums several months back when I first got my truck, but been traveling for work alot.

I purchased a new 2020 TRD Pro (Midnight Black Metallic) and shortly thereafter, installed front and rear lockers (with some help from my TRD insider ;)).

The install was super clean and even got OEM buttons integrated to switch the lockers on/off (see buttons). The rear locking button will obviously lock the rear diff, but the center diff lock will lock front and rear diff together...I was told it's not recommended to lock the front on it's own. Let me just say, these trucks should have had this from the factory....HUGE difference.

So, without further ado....here is my setup:

    1_aef6957017c5531a3ea613c46d0aad5fd53b493c.jpg

    2_70a73a364a0ca51004892581e0043b370feac565.jpg

    diff-lock_25f7e05159e77004eaf5d005bfd958bdfd8cbc0f.jpg

The front and rear lockers are from Eaton, and the following model numbers are:

    14232-1 (10.5” 36-spline) will fit the rear.
14217-1 (9.0” reverse IFS, 34-spline) will fit the front

    Thanks.

Hehe...I appreciate it. Definitely worth the money. Transforms the truck on dusty roads on an incline.

I wish I can spill the beans on who my insider is, but unfortunately TMC would have a hissy fit.

    Thanks!

Thanks! I am....I’m fairly new to AZ, so I will start exploring soon to find some nice trails to really take advantage of the new gear.

I have pics of the locker installations somewhere in my digital camera, once I am settled in, ill get them posted. I will also post schematics of how to build a momentary-to-latching circuit to wire up the OEM buttons using the OEM pigtails. You will need this to switch the lockers on/off using the one-action of the OEM buttons.

Absolutely! I’m still unpacking, so as soon as I get my digital stuff unloaded, ill post them. The install was done in my garage back at my old place, my buddy who I went to University with works for TMC now, and helped with the install. He mentioned this wasn’t the first time THEY “experimented” with setting up lockers for serious off-roading. The toughest part was adjusting the clearance for the ring gears...if your even off by a tad bit, it can cause catastrophic damage to the diff. You will need to drill into the diff housing, just a heads up. The electricals I worked on mostly myself, and I am planning to use a Raspberry Pi Zero to make this circuit “friendlier” than the current setup. It might be a bit of a wait, but I’ll definitely have it up here as soon as I can.

Warranty still intact. The only way a warranty is voided is if the dealer or Toyota Field Tech can prove the modification caused the issue of concern. Also, I have always worked on my cars by myself anyhow, with or without warranties. I don’t trust the mechanics at dealers very much....thats just me.

***DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO ANYONE’S VEHICLE***

Ok, so here is some information on the momentary-to-latching circuit. You can do this in many different ways, however, the idea is (as we were taught in Engineering) to always make the failure points isolated for easy diagnosis/repair/replace. The first schematic is for anyone wanting to build the circuit piece by piece. This is the most time consuming route, but it gives you the freedom to choose parts from any supplier (i.e., Japanese-made components ;)). The second and third pic are of a nice pre-made circuit you run wires to-and-from power, oem button, and lockers. This is by far the easiest solution and the easiest to repair/replace as the failure point is literally on cheap circuit board. Downside is, it’s hard to find quality circuit boards...so if you spike these, they are toast. US, Japanese, or German made circuit boards are not cheap, and are very hard to source.

You need to run the rear locking circuit to only the rear locker wires. The front locking circuit will need to run to both front and rear locking wires. BE CAREFUL!!! You cannot press the buttons in wrong order otherwise it will cancel out your selection. For example, if you press the rear lockers on, you cannot press the front locker button bc it will lock your front and unlock your rear....makes sense? You can also run an led light somewhere on the console to inform you of the lockers on/off. This I am still trying to figure out....another reason Toyota should have made these available out of the box. I used the oem pigtails from the oem buttons so I wouldn’t be splicing into any factory wires. The accessory wires that run to the other oem buttons to light up, you can tap into those and run them to the new buttons so at night, they are visible. Hopefully to have more info for you all soon...

Not quite....no Toyota has true lockers other than Tacoma and 4Runner. The Tacoma and 4Runner only have rear lockers. I don’t believe the Sequoia’s have “real” lockers, I think they are Auto LSD’s like the Tundra’s...someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Correct, the Sequoia has a center driveline locker which makes it the same as a standard 4x4 tundra. The front and rear differentials are still open from the factory. In other words, you can leave a Sequoia unlocked in 4x4 and drive on asphalt. Where as, if you lock it (i.e. like the Tundra), it'll chirp and bind if you turn on hard surfaces.
