Hey all, new guy here. I have lurked for quite a while getting information about Tundra's. I am seriously considering a (new) 2017 Platinum 2wd. Drove it today and almost bought it but I stayed with my gut and walked out as I have been taught to do in the past. I have bought many trucks as I am over 50.

They are offering a pretty good deal (7k off), and I am sure they will move a little more to get me back on the lot.

After reading many threads on this board I was wondering if there is anything specific to look for on this year/model, or anything to stay away from?

I am familiar with Toyota as my wife drives a 2015 4runner limited. I have always driven GM trucks, but have lost my love for them, at least for now.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, hopefully resulting in ownership shortly.......

Welcome from Montana! No major issues that I'm aware of on the 17 Platinum's.

Once you own a Tundra you will forget about the GM 1/2 ton trucks. I used to be a GM only guy then started buy Honda cars and now I own Toyota Tundra and hands down my favorite Truck. Post some pictures when you buy the Tundra.

welcome from TX! not sure about your region but 7k off MSRP down here on 2018's isn't unreasonable, so you might want to shoot for a little bit more of a discount on a 2017

Thanks for the welcome! I am holding out for more of a discount but man is it hard after driving it. My 05 GMC (5.3 Z71) felt like a tired dog on the way home.....

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
    Welcome from MT.
I'd seriously look at the 2018's if its in your budget. There were quite a few features that were added as part of the TSS which is now standard.
Also not sure where you are so its hard to say if that is a good deal or not and not knowing your use case it'll be hard to avoid personal bias.
I'm in MT and a 2 wheel drive is a deal breaker no matter what the make.
For what its worth, I love my Platinum it puts a smile on my face every time a drive it... once that wears off I'll know its time for a supercharger.

I should be getting a new Platinum in about a week or so myself, but one thing I've experienced with Toyota is that my 10 year old '08 Tundra that's getting traded in still rides and drives almost like new. If my '08 was a CrewMax instead of a Double Cab I'd probably keep it another 10.

If they don’t budge on the price see if you can’t get some add ons available from Toyota to customize it a little more!

Wasn’t much but I got them to throw in weather mats and a TUNDRA tailgate letter stickers. I would have asked for the bed mat or some step bars or sway bar if I had to do it over (or maybe some Sport headlights).

Anything to sweeten the deal. Although I’d be riding home with a smile on my face regardless if I pulled off the lot in a new tundra 7k off list price.

I live in Georgia so a 2wd works fine. I own 2 other full size 4wd trucks if I need them. This would be mainly my commuter and boat towing rig. I had a quote worked up on a 2018 and it was only 3k below sticker. Southeast Toyota owns all of it around here.

    always pay sticker price.... LMAO!

Welcome from NC. I have a 2018 Platinum that I bought the 1st of December. I paid just under $6k below sticker and also SE Toyota. I would hold out for more on a 2017 or start negotiating on 18’s. There’s enough of them out there that if your willing to work with multiple dealers, you will find a deal. This thread may help in your negotiations. https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-want-to-buy-a-tundra.10671/unread

Thanks for the replies and tips so far. One good thing is that if they cannot work a better deal on the 17, there are plenty of 18's. The link has a lot of great info.

As previously mentioned the 18's have the TSS stuff which is really nice, and the 18's have the LED headlights.

There is nothing wrong with the 17's though....
