Just thought the colors were pretty funny and wanted to post. The interior is grey, not tan lol.

A simple rubbing alcohol wipe would get rid of that handle gunk and make the color of the handle/lock much more uniform.

They make plastic paint so you get a close match on the surround trim

Look up Colorbond LVP and SEM Color Coat. I've used SEM on smaller parts, I used Colorbond to repaint the entire interior in my S15.

What kind of prep did you do for the plastic?

I think YouTube will be your friend there. Probably basic light sanding, etc.

So, that's the tricky part. Sometimes prep sprays sold at the store will melt acrylics, so you need to make sure you don't spray those on any clear lenses etc.

I normally use a 000 or 00 bronze wool to the panel, then lint-free cloths with an alcohol-based panel prep (wax/grease remover). Adhesion promoter (always, for plastics), then lay color down, and I like to finish with a couple coats of matte or semi-gloss clear (Colorbond has a good couple they offer for this, and a good adhesion promoter).

Always use their flash/recoat instructions on the can, as long as you keep things clean, you can get a good result. Always opt for multiple light coats, not only to avoid runs, but to make a bulletproof finish. If you cake paint on, it chips. If you mist it on, it's not going anywhere.

So funny story (sort of)... I got my inspection done last week and the silly technician broke my interior door handle. I was annoyed but it's an old truck and plastic to gets brittle. I resisted asking how hard you pull on a handle to open the door.

I go find the part on Toyota part search and remember that @shifty` said in another thread I read recently that the part color code is matched correctly by using your VIN. I noticed that it was a different suffix on this door handle part than the bezels I ordered from this original post.

Long story short, I have new door handle today and new bezel with correct color for my truck. 20260405_182622.jpg

Yeah, sorry, but YouTube isn’t going to help you get the correct color for your interior plastics. It’s about as helpful as tits on a boar.
Lucky dawg! They still had your color. Toyota has been discontinuing paint matched parts on the 00-06 trucks, and when they do, they default to tan. I tried to order color matched rear window latches for my AC truck, and I got tan. Had to swap over the charcoal plastic pieces to the new assembly, then hooked up a member in need with the reassembled old latches.

oh wow, didn't realize. Yes it feels great to have factory part in exact match color! Buying little clips and screws I find missing as I go and its nice that most are available so far.

That's what I did. I ordered a spare handle assembly, and the spare surround. Got them in my parts pile. "Just in case". Also ordered a full 3rd brake light assembly, during a 25% off sale, because I've gotten burned on previous trucks with that one getting disco'd.

The driver door interior handle was completely missing when I bought my T3, so I ordered a cheap one, without checking the color first. I never been big on form over function, so it never bothered me. Then I got this backing piece from a member on here for free. Just swapped it out yesterday.
