Hi, guys. Glad to find this site. Pretty good thing you guys have going. Owned a 2020 TRd Pro until a week ago. Chip shortage had people offering me crazy money. Bought an '05 Tundra. Old soul caught up with me. Just got my fixed point tracks installed, along with the Yakima Lock N Load platforms installed yesterday. Gut check moment when I started drilling into the cab. :(

Anyone know what could be the cause of a scratching noise that intensifies as I accelerate? Only hear it when I'm in motion. Don't hear it when I'm idling. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks for the add!

@Blueknights75 I'll look that up on YouTube and see if that sounds similar. Not a mechanic by any means. Thanks!

Welcome from Fort Worth. The market for used trucks is definitely crazy. Glad you were able to find an '05!

I have a 2006 Crew 4x4 and had a vibration develop I could feel in the steering wheel and made a similar noise. I thought it was a tire or rim issue. Dealer diagnosed it in 5 minutes. I though he was lying as the estimate was very expensive. They said the front differential carrier had to be replaced. My private mechanic confirmed the diagnosis and did the repair for 1/3 of what Toyota wanted. Been a few others who have needed the repair.

@lrtexasman Thanks a ton man! Do you mind me asking what your local mechanic quoted? Just a ballpark of what I should expect?

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I assume you've checked to see if there are any branches or debris caught under your truck, in a wheel well or something? I've had that happen several times.

mine is a worst case scenario that I hope isn’t related to your issue. I tried to trouble shoot the cheaper options (rotation, new tires, rims, and shocks) before going to the dealer who quoted me around $4600 to do the repair. The truck only had around 80k on it. My mechanic repaired it for $1800 with a carrier assembly out of a low mileage wrecked truck. His guess is my dad left the truck in 4wd hi (has the button like yours) while on the highway. Evidently it is easy to diagnose by the vibration noise it makes when the wheel is turned.
