Ugh... had a local shop do brakes and now they squeak. Just at the very end of a stop, at slow speed with light pressure. Aside from bringing the truck back in, which I would really like to avoid, anything to try or will this just go away on its own as they wear in?

I didn't notice it when I first picked it up after the brake job, about a week went by before it started.

    Alot of them
It possible that they used semi-metallic pads.

Could it could be the clips on the pads?

Seems like it went away on its own today.

Yesterday I did two things. First, I used the brakes hard for a few good stops. Then, I sprayed the brakes with copious amounts of water from a garden hose, figuring maybe brake dust shed from the bedding process was causing it. While it didn't go away completely yesterday, it did diminish a little bit.

This morning I couldn't replicate the noise. I'm satisfied.

New brakes need to be burnished....several good hard slowdowns from speed to about 5mph to get everything seated

Well the thing is I thought I had bedded them in using a soft approach but I guess I was babying them too much. Yesterday I repeatedly panic stopped those MF'ers while speeding down a hill.

But again, the squeak wasn't totally gone until this morning. I guess the brakes had a little discussion among themselves overnight knowing they were in for some more punishment today if they didn't STFU.

    UPDATE:

Nope I was wrong. Squeal is back and just as bad as ever. I wonder why I didn't hear it this morning. So frustrating.

Put it up on Jack's and rotate it by hand and see if you can pin-point it. I'm wondering what pads they installed.....

Yeah gonna try and get to that within the next couple days. What a fucking pain in the ass. If I wanted to jack my own truck up and struggle with the wheels I would have just done my own brakes in the first place.

Pull everything apart put anti seize on metal to metal contacts. Mainly where the pads sit in the caliper shoe and on the caliper fingers(outside pad) and caliper piston inside pad. Where the caliper touches the pad. Use whiz wheel and lightly resurface pad. Properly bed brakes. Before the anti seize brush all the above components with a wire brush to remove break dust build up then blow off with air. Make sure all springs are in place

Did you get new rotors as well ? Is it the front or rear wheels that are squealing ?

I could bring it back, of course.

But it's a major pain in the ass because I have to leave it, get a ride back and forth, and be without my truck for a full day.

You need this on your pins, contact points, and between/behind your shims.

This will do the same as anti seize. Either or will work. Should you decide to take care of this yourself

Ya it would pretty much be redoing what he already paid for. Sucks but they clearly didn't do something right.

^This, I have OCD when I do brakes and use this or some other anti squeal compound when I replace brakes ... use it on all contact surfaces, behind the shim, etc. use it liberally.

It could be the new rotors rubbing on the dust shields. Rust builds up behind the shield and pushes it inwards toward the rotor. Are you in the rust belt area ?

Its frustrating hard to find a tech that is great at there job if you can find one stick with them.

NY. Yes the underneath of my truck has a lot of surface rust after 4 winters of that horrible liquid salt shit they use on the roads.

    Okay, another update.

I popped off the wheels and sprayed the living hell out of everything with brake cleaner and blew it out with air very well. A LOT of dirt / dust came out. I did not remove the calipers and pads because, well because I really wasn't in the mood and it was getting dark.

Took it for a spin and really thought I had fixed it. I didn't want to jinx myself by saying anything but the noise was indeed gone.

Couple hours later I was curious and just not took it out for a ride and oops... the squeal is back.

Now it seems that if I work the brakes hard (heat them up), and then immediately try to get it to squeal I can't. Drive for a minute or so (I guess everything cools off) and here's the noise again if I brake just right. Again, it's only with very slight pressure on the pedal but it really cannot be avoided during delicate driving.

So I'm getting more clues. Only when they are very heated up do they not squeak. Just a minute of driving it town speeds is long enough to get them to cool down enough to replicate the sound again.

Well I can't tell by looking but I was able to see through the back of the caliper and observe that they are very meaty! Lots of pad, very thick. They do appear dark gray, if that helps to figure out what material they are.
