Bought myself a Tundra today. 2018 SR5 Crewmax 4wd with 53k miles. Truck is in fantastic shape with a couple minor scratches. Truck came with several modifications which include Hooke Road bumpers, rough country intake, Bilstein shocks and lift, a cobbled together stock exhaust, and drilled and slotted rotors. It’s got aftermarket wheels with brand new Firestone 275/65/20 tires on it.

Not real sure where the build will go as I don’t need an off road truck (got a purpose built k5 for that) and I’ve got a Durango rt for having fun with. For sure it’s going to get long tubes and exhaust and tuned. New stereo is in short order (it’s the non jbl and sounds like garbage). Probably just a fun driver and deer lease rig.

First thing I want is to get new side mirrors. It’s got the extending factory ones on it and I hate them. Anyone got regular heated and powered mirrors they want to trade for heated and powered tow mirrors? Pic included of what mine look like.

Glad to see more pictures of your truck. Two of the small cheap mods I did that I think made a difference. Blue color lugs for the silver lugs (its essentially a blue rubber cap that slides over your lugs and gives them color) but since your wheels have the machined bits, not sure you want to cover the chrome lugs. The other thing I did, cheap foot well illumination kit. Pretty handy especially if you are in the truck a lot at night with a spouse or kids (interior is huge and the footwells are massive voids of light. My lights stay at a dim blue but its very enjoyable). Just some cheap easy ones to get your gears turning.

Once you have ideas of what you want to do, plenty of folks will have suggestions to help lol

X-pipe and borla pro xs muffler ordered. The XR1 muffler I had was a 3.5" which might be kind goofy on a stock setup.

Doing some poking around today. Truck has aux lights in the front and rear bumper. There are switches in the cab for the lights. What’s missing is wiring from the lights to the switches. So that’s gotta get taken care of. Also found my bumper on the manufacturers website and it comes with a 120w light bar installed in the middle of it which I don’t have. So I’ve got a few little projects to work on.

Muffler came in today. Hopefully the stars align and I can get it installed Friday.

So it sounds great driving around but it drones like crazy at 1500-1750rpm. Bit surprising considering I’ve run this muffler and x-pipe on several vehicles with no issue. I’m blaming the lack of rear cats. Not a big deal as I can whip up an adjustable resonator easy enough. I think I’m also going to put a longer tip on it and get it out from underneath the bumper like it currently is.

Ordered up a bunch of oils today. Not knowing the full history of the truck and with it having 53k miles on it, I'm going to do both axles, transfer case, engine oil, and transmission drain and fill. That way I've got a baseline on everything and can go from there. Mobil 1 engine oil and Valvoline for the rest of it.

Keep an eye on the marketplace or put a WTB ad up once you have a few more posts. Quite a few here install tow mirror and might part with their stock mirrors. You might even find someone that will do a trade with you.

That’s the plan. I hate these dang things and want them gone but I’m not dropping $400 for an aftermarket pair.

First time on the highway with the truck. I forgot how sensitive Toyota’s were to big tires and stock gears. It’ll hold 75 on cruise but the slightest gust it downshifts and there is zero accelerating without dropping a couple of gears. My bonus needs to hurry up. Daddy needs a set of 5.29’s and an LSD.

Front axle, rear axle, transfer case, and engine oil all changed. 53k on the odometer. I know the previous owner towed but not sure how much or how heavy (enough and heavy enough to get rid of this for a diesel) so figured why not. I’ve got a gallon of trans fluid but I want to study the drain and fill method a bit more before I dive into that. Looks more complicated than I anticipated it being.

Congrats on the new truck. I bought mine partly so I would "stop wasting money" on modifying the cars I typically buy. Nearly $10K later within the first year and I blame the fine ladies and gentlemen of this here forum. With all respect and love of course. Damn fine group of enablers...

Oh this one is getting modified. It just came with stuff I was already planning to do. Already planning out gears come bonus time next year and trying to get a tune for Christmas. I’m just glad to be starting with a simpler platform. Basic and easy. Let me add the complications I want.

Scored some OEM non tow mirrors today off of Craigslist for $140. Looks so much better and fits in the garage way easier. Anyone want my old tow mirrors let me know.

Broke down and bought the dirty deeds pre-made resonator. Was going to build my own but didn’t have any straight pipe long enough and by the time I bought it and built it, wasn’t worth it. Hopefully this quiets the drone down because at 70-80mph it’s brutal.

Great looking truck. I've been looking for tow mirrors for mine forever. Let me know if they're available!

Edit: I wish I saw this sooner I would've traded in a heartbeat!

So for some reason unbeknownst to me, the previous owner got bumpers that had cube lights factory installed in them but he never wired them in, front or rear. Switches are installed in the cab but the wires to the lights were just dangling. So I got the fogs wired in to just the factory wiring today. I’ll get the switches and rear cubes wired up when I have more time but at least I’ve got some extra light. I’m a little annoyed that the PO took the 20” light bar that comes in the middle of the bumper so I’ll need to grab that and get it wired in.

Nothing fancy but I put a new exhaust tip on. I want it farther out from under the bumper to try and help with the drone. Haven’t driven it but starting it there’s a big difference as the interior no longer buzzes. Also bought the tuning credits for HPtuners so I’m gonna start playing with that.

Took the truck out today the new tip solved 85% of my drone issues so I’m happy with that. Still got some around 1900-2000 but it’s half of what it was. Before you couldn’t talk in the truck without yelling while on the highway.

Got my dirty deeds resonator installed. Pretty simple. Mark, drill, clamp. Start up is quieter. Haven’t had a chance to drive it yet. It does have a bit of a leak where the flange meets the pipe but I can fix that with my welder after testing it for a bit.
