I’ve read the reviews and decided to get an odessey battery. I know direct replacement is a 24F…..however, the 34R seems to be more available. Who is using a 34R and which version? It appears there are lots of variants of this model.

I replaced my oem one this past summer with an Odyssey 27F AGM, has been great. Extremely similar to the discontinued Northstar 27F but a bit more CCA I believe.

Keep in mind, the factory charging system in your truck is voltage regulated and not designed to properly charge an AGM battery. You will need to alter the output voltage as well as put a trickle charger on the battery occasionally to prevent over draining the battery. Unless you absolutely need an AGM battery because you’re doing very heavy off roading, stick with the best wet cell battery you can find. An AGM is actually more maintenance needy than a regular wet cell.

why, AGM is not a gel battery and should charge just fine.

Because the required charging voltage for an AGM is higher than what the voltage regulated system puts out. Most agm’s require 13.9 or higher constant voltage in order to charge. The voltage is regulated to no more than 13.7 after warm up.
