Ughhhhhhh, my lunar rock that I’m picking up in a week apparently has those horrible door edge guards. They are the paint matched ones that are like a metal material. The dealer won’t take them off because they don’t want to be liable for any scratches.
Does anyone have these? Are they easy to remove? I absolutely do not want these but I’m scared taking them off will scratch the paint because they are not rubber.

Never seen them on a tundra, but I would share you concern. Would prefer they were not installed too. Things like that often end up looking like crap a few years down the road, collecting dirt, coming loose, or other problems with the finish. But since they were factory installed, they will have a warranty for a while.

    I found them- https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota__...y-Metallic---C-Cab/69550890/PT9363417011.html

And yes, metal-Thermoplastic-coated stainless steel. I would be inclined to leave them alone as who know what kind of adhesive or glue was used to install them. Maybe you could contact toyota and ask, of if they were dealer installed, they should know.

If you do try and remove you need to find out what adhesive was used. I am guessing some sort of 3M thin tape . I would think that using a heat gun (carefully) to heat it up a little and then use a set of plastic trim tools could get them off. But the paint could have scratches under from the install....no way to know.

Any chance you have some good pics I can see? I’m more concerned about how noticeable they are and how they look.

I put them on both my 17 Tundra and 18 Highlander. Wish we had them on the 07 FJ. Really help to protect the door edge and look great.

    my .02 anyway.

thank you, I guess they are not too terrible…

I would need to see a full view of the truck to see how noticeable they are . Based on the installation do you think if I take them off I will mess the paint up?

not bad at all, much better looking installed at the factory than some of the dealer installed items.

I would not attempt to remove them.

They aren't noticeable at all and you will forget they are even installed. I wouldn't try to remove them. To me it's like with fender flares, once installed I'd be afraid to see what's underneath them lol.

Ok that’s comforting! As long as they disappear from my eyes and are not killing the clean lines of the truck I won’t care .

No, purchased an FJ and that's how the doors were. Wish they made the door edge guards for the FJ.

There is no way I would remove those. We bought our 2012 Rav4 new and 9 years later those door edges look rough while the rest of the paint looks great. You'll be glad you keep them if you have the truck a long time.

Just got mines in the mail. Looks like it’s held in by pressure snap? No 3m tape on the back side like I assumed.

I’m glad I was able to get them removed off of my build before my LunaRock Pro was built. I only had them do the spray in bed liner. Which I’m glad because it has the tundra name in it. They also took the predator steps off also.

    Too many, but not enough....
These are one of few oem factory upgrades that are worth every cent. Their cheap, functional and in my opinion look great. I have little kids and go offroading so these are indispensable.

I have them, metal tip next to the handle caught my hand a time or two but I don't even really notice them. My first thought when I picked up the truck I said to myself, "oh it has those, cool." that was the extent of it lol

I was going to do a search on these and just stumbled on this thread. I'm super mixed on these. They came from the factory on my 21. I suspected they could be a problem and I really just don't like them. Yesterday, with less than 500 miles on the truck I ran it through a car wash for a quick wash. As I was pulling away I looked in the side view mirror and saw something sticking out from the truck at an odd angle. Turns out about 3/4 of the rear door strip ripped off. The first thing I checked was the paint on the door and it looks fine. I pulled the strip the rest of the way off and the part that was still connected came off pretty easily and left no marks. Based on how the bottom section pulled off I think they are just pressed on.

I'm seriously considering pulling the other 3 off now. I'm always super careful opening doors on my trucks (my kids not so much) and don't do nearly as much damage to my doors as others do to me. I'm considering pulling another one off to see how it goes. The one that pulled off is a little mangled at the bend point and I don't think it will look good put back on.

If you’re worried about protecting your paint…stop taking your truck through car washes.

I’m not worried about dinging my door edges. It’s the idiots who park next to me and ding their door edges against my doors and fenders. I wish they had the black rubber lower door guards that my Gen1 has

Check the build link in my signature.
Install starts at the top. I put them in my truck. Not difficult, but a few places do need a little care and love with the mallet. Definitely nice to save the door edges
