Hey Everyone new Tundra Owner here. Picked up a 2019 on 12/30 after our 2013 F150 5.0 decided to have bad exhaust valves at 69K.

TL-DR: Our F150 was failing, didn't want to fix. Tundra met/exceeded needs. Got a great deal and took home 2019 Plat. Happiness now and mods coming.

Powertrain warranty expired in May no extended warranty. In October during a normal start up and drive off the CEL came on and the code revealed cylinder 7 misfire. This was at 63-64k. Did some research and hoped for the best switching coils, changing plugs and no matter what I did the code kept coming back. I knew what the problem was but I guess I hoped it wouldn't end up being bad valves. On Xmas eve we backed down the driveway and as I gave it gas it shuddered really bad backing up and when I put it into drive. Always detected some missing at just off idle or under 1200rpms but it never shuddered like that. Finally buckled down and did a compression and leakdown on that entire side of the block. 5/6/8 were ~125psi and 7 was ~60. Leak down showed massive leak at the exhaust valves on 7. So we were left with a decision to either replace both heads either paying for the labor or doing it myself and it was about ~2k in parts alone before my aggravation and time or a shops and my dollars.

We literally paid it off as I did the engine tests so we had a serious sour taste in our mouth and the F150 was our first American car and full size truck. Nothing FCA or GM makes would ever get my dollars and the Titan looks terrible. So it was another Ford or the Tundra and after we thought about needing major work so early we didn't want to give them anymore of our money.

So the Platinum Tundra had every creature comfort our Ford did plus all the modern safety features we wanted. We didn't believe the reviews on the Tundra being outdated and I'm glad we didn't because it easily rivals all the "NEW" trucks. We didn't care about yuge touch screens or cylinder deactivation and we never sniffed the MPG the coyote was supposed to get. We ended up taking the Tundra at 32k (20k for F150) out the door after adding the extended warranty. Dealer included a lifetime powertrain warranty and we normally never get EW's but because we were in there for not having one on the FORD the extra cost didn't seem that high for 6/72 bumper to bumper or a bad idea.

    Mods Planned:
    1. 3/2 Lift: Coils and Rear Blocks to keep the rake for the safety system
    2. 33's on 20x9 +18: Gloss Black Anthem Defenders already here
    3. Tonneau and oem bed extender: already installed
    4. tech12 Remote Start: already installed
    5. Gutting the horrible JBL stereo (this isnt our first toy/lex vehicle and they all suck): DSR-1 method keeping factory head unit, ID comps and coxials, two pioneer shallow 10's behind seats.
    6. Some form of exhaust down the road
