Truck is stock and has the door handles and side steps that have a bit of a textured, flat/matt finish. What is the best way to get them cleaned and looking like new?

withing the detailing thread....myself , @Pudge, @War Machine, and i'm sure others I'm missing..... have been wondering how to get a good cleaner to take care of the steps and/or matte finish door handles without making them greasy, make them last longer than the 1-3 week time frame, etc. The handles are plastic and not the "liner" finish like the steps, so plastic treatment could take care of the handles. I've even heard of a heat gun (low setting and carefully) can get them back to a shiny finish without a greasy finish. I'm going to paint mine since my color is crazy expensive for already painted from somewhere. I haven't found/seen/discovered anything for the black stepsides though.

Solution Finish will restore the color to the handles better than anything else.

As @Fotnot said, we haven’t discovered a great solution for the side steps. Plenty of products will get them looking black for a short time, but the only thing I’ve used that lasts more than a few days is Superior Cover All. It’s a spray that @Jim LE 1301 recommended to me, and can be found at O’Reily’s. It still doesn’t last incredibly long, but much longer than anything else I know of.

Even though you have to reapply often, it’s cheap and easy. (It does last a good while on tires and trim, just not the metal on the steps.)

Only issues are overspray that you have to watch out for, and it leaves the steps pretty slick if you don’t go back over it and wipe the excess off. It’s also good for tires and will make faded / oxidized black wheels pop again.

Sorry I don’t have a more long term fix, but believe me I’ve tried to find something.

not sure if @War Machine was aware...sometimes the O'reilly's have the cover all in a gallon for $30 bucks that you can do yourself. Can also dilute however you like. Thats what I have done. Just an FYI. I use it for my tires mostly.

I knew it was available, just haven’t seen it in stock when I’ve looked yet.

You have to ask them for it. Kept behind counter or in warehouse.

I have the same black door handles, and most products keep them looking good for a short period of time. Solution Finish is a dye that will last a while, but will need to be re-applied at some point. I've used SToners Trim Shine, Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant and McKees Plastic Trim Restorer, all with similar, short-term results. As far as your steps, I've seen people use Car Pro Perl (diluted 10:1), and again, the results were short-lived and risky if you do not wipe all the excess off.
