My brother and I have spent the last year or so rebuilding a 1978 MG midget. We’ve learned about taking most of it apart and putting it back again wrong and then doing it again. It’s a blast to driving even though you feel (and are) one tree away from death.

We have been talking about what to get next.
    Any recommendations?

Want to spend under maybe 5g on the buy and then slowly put maybe another 5k into it. Doesn’t need to turn heads, we just like tinkering.

    Here’s the midget

Very cool project. I used to rebuild BMW 1600/2002s. I liked the older, round tail light version. I liked to keep them as stock as possible except for the suspension, wheels and tires. Great handling little cars and kind of a cult collector thing these days.

1600 is the same car but earlier and with, obviously, a smaller engine. The engine swap is super easy and there are so many cool things you can do with 'em.... 5 spd tranny, dual down draft carbs, shock tower bars, poly bushing throughout the suspension......
The MG came out great, can't wait to see what you do next.

A 1969-73 BMW 2002 is my absolute dream car. I had the opportunity to buy a 'runner' when I was 17 for $1,000 and passed. Still kick myself to this day.

I had a '68 which I don't think was sold originally in the US, a '69 and a couple others. Man, they've gotten expensive over the last 15 or so yrs. I bought the '68, not running, for $400 and dropped an engine in for $500. Now they cost more than they sold for originally. I kick myself for having gotten rid of them.

TR6 or Datsun 240z were/are on my list.

My old man had a TR6 - I'd like to restore one to just the way his was...

I wanted to take a 240z and strip it bare, put in a cage to stiffen it up and then drop in the 3.7l engine out of the nissan 370 or Infiniti G37 and just make an epic road toy.

My dad has 2 240z‘s 71 and 72. Both have the larger Strait six. I think it’s the 260 engine? One is his race car that he has yet to put together. And the other was a daily driver for years. Triple side draft webers on both. Full suspension and differential for the race car. Fun little cars!

if i found a decent, complete, all original, i'd never change out the engine - for it's time, it's an awesome car... but if i happened across a trashed one that needed new drivetrain, i don't know how but i'd force that 350HP V6 in it for endless smiles

Do you have pics of your dad's?

Not handy. They’ve been under cover for quite a while now since he has a company vehicle. One of them was basically all original with every single receipt and log book along with it. It is piss green and totally perfect when he got it. The guy he bought it from was a total enthusiast. The other one is bright yellow that somebody had put ground effects on LOL that one will be his race car. Dad hasn’t kept up on the green one. I did have both of the bumpers re-chromed for his birthday one year. Somebody hit him on the freeway and it had to be repaired so the paint isn’t original anymore as of a few years ago. I need to light a fire under his ass And get these cars going.

Looks just like this except not lowered. Same rims and everything.

Here’s another similar one but the wrong rims

Pops is a little worse for wearBeing that it’s not in the garage. He does keep it covered. In the last few years it has developed a rust spot under the back window. But the engine is still tight.

I am thinking of getting a Land Cruiser FJ as a project. The problem is that they are getting really pricey even in bad condition.
