I have a 2008. I thought maybe the batteries were going bad in my TPMS. The tire shop says all of the monitors are sending a signal including the spare. Here is what is happening. I start the truck and the TPMS is flashing like over 50 times and then gives a steady illumination. I have counted on several occasions and yes it does flash over 50 times and then gives a steady light. I have checked all tires and they are all at the same pressure. Can anyone tell me what may be going on? Thanks.

Sounds like the sensors may be getting old and going bad. My wife's '07 GX 470 has the same problem, and we may have to replace all of them with new ones.

They only have a 10 year service life span. I bet the signal is just too weak for the ECU receiver to pick up.

Yep, that's what the tire shop told us as well.

Mine does the exact same thing. Tire shop said all them are sending signals too so I don’t even know which one is bad or what the problem is. They said it’s like 200 bucks a sensor so I’m just dealing with it but the light is super annoying, post if you get any better idea. I’d like to just turn off the whole system if possible

Discount Tire quoted me like $60 a sensor a few weeks ago when I was contemplating a winter tire/wheel set-up that didn’t come with TPMS. Said they should just be able to break the bead and stick their hands in there to swap out.

The guy just said “oh they’re like 200 each” without looking anything up so he might be wrong. For that price I’ll change em, the light drives me nuts

They're not really necessary unless you just don't like seeing the light. I bought new ones when I upgraded to bigger tires and realized that I wasted a bunch of money. The Toyota dealership will charge you about $150 (YMMV) to program the new sensors, so you have to add that onto the cost as well.

Then you need to do the TPMS bypass mod. Involves soldering a resistor in line on one of the wires coming from the ECU. I did the mod 5 or so years ago. I don't even have the sending units in the tires any more.

I don't think anyone can convince me that the TPMS system is a safety feature. Its a feature that insures that the truck can get the advertised MPG.

I happy checking my tires the old fashioned way. After spending a grand on tires, a person will watch their tire pressures closely.

Amazon and Ebay have sensors for approx 35 dollar each. Also, it really is a good warning especially if you have a nail in the tire creating a very slow leak..
