Need advice on cv axle

    So I was changing the oil in my wife's CX-9 tonight and noticed a bunch of grease flung around the area surrounding the cv boot. I didn't check too closely, but the boot is obviously torn. I've been researching replacement cv axles and am torn between buying one of those vs just putting a new boot on my OEM axle. I don't know how long it's been torn, but I didn't notice it during the last oil change ~7500 miles ago.

    It also just so happens that I'm taking it into the dealer on Friday to take care of two recalls, one of which is replacing the lower control arms. That process will involve doing most of the work for an axle replacement anyway, so I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow and ask if they can just take care of it while they're in there and discount the labor. I don't have high hopes for their answer, but I figured I'd ask.

    Anyway, I guess I'm ultimately just asking if I'm OK getting a replacement cv axle or if I should re-boot the OEM axle assuming a ton of crap didn't get into the joint.

    That's what I'm going to ask. The thing is that as far as labor goes, it probably takes the same amount of time to change the boot vs replacing the whole thing since the axle has to come out either way.
