My steps are probably too low, right?

So I put my predator steps on today but I feel like they are a little low. The first thing the wife mentioned when she got in the tundra was that I should put some steps on it. I thought it was a good idea and thought it would enhance the look. I don't do near the off-roading that some of you do but I'm not afraid to take my truck places I want to go either. Mainly off the beaten path when hunting. I just feel these are a tad on the low side. What do you guys think?

I'm not really interested in lifting my truck to solve the problem. ;) Leveling, yes but that's down the road a bit but still wouldnt help much I'd say. Thoughts?

They look normal to me, that’s just how they mount up. If you’re taking fire/ logging roads for hunting I’m sure you’ll be fine as long as you avoid large obstacles/ ditches in the road.
If you level and add bigger tires down the road, that will only help. Just don’t use them as sliders :)

Matters what your needs are. Mine are up high but even with a fake knee I can grab the Oh Shit handle and mount up. If you or your passenger are vertically challenged or have any health issues. They are what you need.
    Good luck. D

There are different types of steps, some don’t have the drop down steps like these, but these look normal for that style.

I have those on my truck and feel like the steps hang a little too low as well and that the design of the step with the big flat face pointing forward would be a problem if your going off road. Would catch anything you go over and destroy them. If your not going off road I think they look great and are functional. P

The RCI are awesome. If you like that look and want a cheaper but less durable and quality option, check out the GoRhino.

Their is a company I forget who of course but they have removable step like the OP posted. To turn into like a rock slider.

I often take my 90 year old 4'11" mother on trips to the grocery store and to the Dr and such, and she loves those predator steps (they are not my first choice but they came with the truck). I don't do any crazy off roading, just the trails that would not be a problem for a stock truck. Keep the tires on the high spots and I don't bash around at high speed and I am fine. Back in the late 90s I went on a trail in my 94 v6 Toyota 4x4 truck, with a friend in his 4runner, at Big Bear. We found a trail that turned into a wide long jumble of white granite (I think) jagged rocks about the size of a football. He thought "Oh yea I can do this" and barrelled through like an idiot. I took my sweet time, keeping the wheels on the high spots and rolling gently off them, being conscious of what was under the truck. He got way ahead of me, then stopped. His passenger side running board was all bashed in and he had a dent in his gas tank. Dweeb. I think of this whenever I take my truck off road.

Your not going far off-road with those tires or stock clearance anyway. Get a lift and better tires or something.

Yeah I'm gonna wear the tires out and probably put some falken wild peaks on her. I've had two sets on my Tacoma and they've done well by me. Not really interested in a lift but do want to level it up some.

@Finch, I've taken my 2017 2WD TRD off-roading numerous times. No lift, stock Michelin tires. I did add rock sliders, then wonder how I lived without them, because I've rested the truck on them several times, pushing to do a little more. Got it places others have had trouble getting with 4x4. Anyway, I'm just acknowledging you can probably keep doing a lot of cool off-roading in a stock Tundra 4x4.

2nd thought: One of my forum buddies did damage his steps following me over a high berm that I slid over on my sliders. And his steps didn't come down as low as yours do. If your mom isn't insulted by the thought, maybe replace the steps with rock sliders and get one of these stable collapsible plastic steps:

I think you are thinking about Tzvia's mother. He mentioned her in his post. Thanks for the input though. I doubt I'll do anything extreme in this truck anyway. I still have the Tacoma that I'll use for my hunting endeavors.

Thanks! It's kinda funny because red or even orange was the last color on my list. Hell, I said never but I saw it and it grew on me quick. All my friends were surprised with my color choice. Guess I've always been a little plain. :D
